It's looking more and more likely Gagai will start at the back, Best and Mapa in the centres and Mann to 14 right?

I really rate a fit Brailey and Hastings/Ponga is up there in terms of talent. If we can get it together, probably not that bad.

I think the biggest issue having Gags at the back is the speed he’s seemed to have lost. Very noticeable last year.

I can live with Gags at the back for the short-medium term. He will at least run the ball back and be tricky to handle and bounces around a bit, whereas KP just passed to a winger every time. Also it gets Gags out of the centres where his defence is really poor, and it’s not like KP is a good defensive FB anyway so I don’t think we lose much there either.

Yes I’d prefer to have a specialist fullback there (Miller) but Gags is probably the next best option we’ve got if KP is indeed going to play 5/8 instead.

If we don’t end up getting Miller then I’d probably rather have at least an experienced first grader plug that gap for a bit and maybe Hodgson gets a crack later in the year after he gets some reserve grade games under his belt.

Gags will be great on the returns. He will be up for the contact. The more they go at him the more he gets into the game I find. His ability to stand in a tackle will be a big plus. He’ll fight for the yards.
He’ll make mistakes. Possibly game changing but what else is new around here. He is our best option.

In general I'd prefer to see the club look to the future with Mapapalangi at centre over Gagai and I think there's aspects of fullback that Gagai could do quite well at. Much higher workload though, would be nicer if he wasn't 32 years old making that switch for the first time.

I still think we end up with Miller ultimately.

From memory Gagai played a fair bit of fullback on his first stint here

I seem to remember him getting driven back ingoal quite a bit. He fights for metres, but not always a good option when you have 4 guys holding you up and driving in the tackle.

Like others have said, not ideal having a 32-year old changing from his preferred position to play fullback, but I agree he seems to be the best option, not knowing what Hodgson is capable of and not sure I could handle Mann’s mistakes or involvement for 80 minutes a week.

Don’t know where Gagai to fullback is coming from. All for him being punted from the centres but doubt fullback is where we want him.
