Sucks that he's gone, he looks like a good one.
Doesn't suck that we didn't break the bank for a winger when we have other needs.

There's not a single position on the park that we don't have needs!

I’ve got two more things to add;

How the f**k are Roosters splashing 500k on a winger.

The timing of this really sucks. All off-season you try to build the comeradry and mateship, and for this to happen right now before season kick-off, it has the ability to destabilize that and puts a crack in the armor already - no pun intended.

I don’t know who is most to blame here but AOB tenure hasn’t had the best recruitment and retention.

If as reported it's come down to dollars then don't think you can necessarily blame AOB for that. Parr and/or Zammit would be the ones making those calls. Could be that we're struggling cap-wise more than we realise.

I understand not paying overs but our offer was significantly under the 500k mark? We've low-balled him. The guy is the best young player we've had in a long time and becoming an elite winger in the next few years looked a very real possibility. That's got to be one of the biggest blunders from the club I've seen. We are an absolute joke of a club.

AOB would be involved in recruitment decisions. My understanding of how most clubs operate is there's a recruitment "team" or "board" that would typically comprise of the head of recruitment, the head of football, the coach and potentially the CEO. All the key stakeholders would have input essentially.

I could be wrong, though.

Could be that we're struggling cap-wise more than we realise.

Then that would also be their fault, on top of this.

Another funny element to this is that AOB is so desperate to keep his job - he has to keep picking Dom. So we, the paying customers, get the pleasure of watching a young Rooster running around for us this year at least until AOB inevitably gets the sack.
I'd honestly drop him to NSW Cup. I don't have anything against him I just don't want to help develop him for the Roosters, because this one hurts.

The rumour was/is that Suali might be back off to Union though which, if true, means we never really had a chance money wise.

Coaches are certainly part of the process but they aren't the ones crunching the numbers and presenting offers to the managers is my point. That's Director of Football & Head of Recruitment territory.

That’s precisely what you could blame them for.

It certainly doesn’t sound like we have much cap room.

I’ll stand by the club if they had a solid offer and didn’t want to go over, but deep down I feel like that isn’t the case and they’ve just bungled this one.

There’s some shit going on which we musnt be seeing. First we couldn’t get Ruben Garrick here. So we settled for the best reserve grade fullback and had to throw in an under 20s rep player to get that deal over the line.

Part of me says get rid of Dom now, he’s no use to us not being in our future plans. But the Roosters won’t give us any noteworthy player for him.

Just when you think this club is going to breakthrough, we seem to be going backwards and back to collect another spoon.

Even the ducking Tigers turned things around drastically this off-season.

Dogs looking like they can turn it around too. Hell they had a lot more spirit in them last year than we did.

We are the worst club of the modern era, bar none. There's some that at least play in our pool, but I don't think any eclipse us for sheer patheticness. Honestly I find it all amusing at this point. We are what we are, and I've come to accept I'm here to find mirth in it... and maybe we fluke some success again before I die.

Also, is it safe to say that the Roosters are replacing one of their wingers for next year - and are perfectly comfortable trading us absolutely nothing to get a trade done this year? It seems like there's nothing in it for them, so it's just another "f**k you" to us.

Also while we don't really know what the actual figures are, 500k is not what it used to be. The salary cap this year for top 30 is $11.45M to put it into perspective.

Would love to know how much we offered him to not be in the same ballpark.
Yes, this isn't an Aku situation. $500k today would have been more like $250k under that cap. $500k is above average certainly, but it's not ball-busting. It's probably about the ballpark you expect the next generation/wave of top-line wingers to be earning. It's elite winger money. Maybe the really super elite/game breakers like a Radradra type could milk a bit more.

I thought I read someone say that addo-care signed for 450k, so this essentially makes Dom the highest paid Winger.

Surely Roosters do lose either Tupou, Teddy or Suaali next year.
