I've been watching Birdy closely ever since we've been linked to him and wow. If he keeps up this form when/if he comes to us then he'd be a great signing. Not for 700k though.

If we signed Paul Vaughan and either Nathan Brown or Kane Evans for next year I'd be happy with that PROVIDED we go hard as f**k for Tom and Jake Trbojevic for 2018. Rumours going around that they're not happy with the early negotiations with Manly for 2018.

2.Brendan Elliott
3.Nathan Ross
4.Dane Gagai
5.Matthew Soper-Lawler
6.Brock Lamb
7.Trent Hodkinson

9.Jarrod Mullen
10.Nathan Brown/Kane Evans
11.Sione Mata'utia
12.Mitch Barnett
13.Korbin Sims

14.Danny Levi
15.Daniel Saifiti
16.Jacob Saifiti
17.Sam Mataora

2018
1.Tom Trbojevic
2.Nathan Ross
3.Dane Gagai
4.- some junior
5.Matthew Soper-Lawler
6.Brock Lamb
7.Jack Cogger
8.Jacob Saifiti
9.Danny Levi
10.Daniel Saifiti
11.Sione Mata'utia

Yes he's been playing well but the bloke is at the end of his career. I'm pretty confident it won't all be cap money after reading Nuffy's summation of the Gidley meeting but FFS 700K for Greg Bird is an absolute joke. Maybe at the peak of his career - maybe.

Nathan Brown has signed elsewhere.
That 2017 team is horrific. The backline is worse than this year.

And if you think the Trjbojevic's are coming near the joint you're having a laugh.

Apart from that all good

700k on the cap is way overs.

Perhaps it's not cap money.

It wouldn't make it any better if it was.

Why give Bird a big pay increase when he is in decline and no longer a rep player? Especially when this type of stupidity is what Brown and Mooney are trying to clean up at the moment. Don't buy it.

I can't see this rumour being true, it would go against everything that Brown has said in regards to cap management this year. Maybe that figure has come from Bird's camp not ours?

Either way that would be massive overs for a guy who just got dropped from the NSW team. Bird would be an improvement to our side but 3 years is too long and definitely not on that kind of money.

I do not agree with that CH. There's only a handful of players who should be on 10% of a team's cap and Bird definitely aint one of them.

2 mil over 3 years would be backdated for when the cap increases and also would include TPAs(hopefully)

Year 1 - 500k + 100k TPAs
Year 2 -600k + 100k TPAs
Year 3- 650 + 50k TPAs

I really don't think that is unreasonable. It may be overs, but it's not uate, Tims, hokko, Randell, Rochow, Snowden overs by any stretch

The only problem I see with it, is it will look like a retirement package for bird and I wouldn't want his form to replicate previous players here to retire on a sweet deal

For whatever reason we dont seem to be looking for fullbacks, otherwise we would have had a crack at mead. But he has signed with the broncos now.

100k would hopefully be a small percentage of what we had in TPAs, and someone like Bird would need to attract some sort of TPA deal for us to be any chance of getting him.

On reflection here's my thoughts.

I'm pretty confident the club won't pay massive overs for him, I'm cynical enough to suggest that Birds team has seeded that number to begin the dance.

He gets 500k for next year, so it may depend on how keen the GC are to free up some cap space. They might kick the can.

I reckon negotiations begin in earnest now that the GC are out of the finals.
