We did the same thing with the Saifiti's earlier in the year and part of me was thinking, 'why don't we give them a longer deal so we can ward of poachers?' Then I thought about it more and the reason we're giving them 1-2 extensions is so we can pay them what they're worth in 2-3 years time instead of paying for potential like we did with Clydesdale, Roberts, Stockwell etc... Love the new way we're going about things.

All around the league players are signing until the end of 2018, because that's when the salary cap goes up. They'd be throwing money away by signing longer term deals.

I reckon a lot has to do with possible cap increases. We are reluctant to sign for more than the end of 2017 except where we see a real future there. AFAIK we don't have anyone signed beyond 2018. That Scottish fwd may be an exception.
A stable club ownership and TPAs will help.
