If the reported numbers are true, it's overs no matter which way you cut it, TPA or not. As slots said, it's still money you can spend on someone else. He is a good player, but how much does he have left in the tank? Why are we paying him more than the Titans do, given his age? All common sense dictates he's due for a pay drop, not a juicy increase. He's played the game hard for a long time now, I think we've all seen seen players at his age and older regress quite rapidly in the space of a single off season.

It really just seems like yet another signing with red flags all over it. It may well turn out ok, we're due for something to turn out ok, but I feel like we'll be getting lucky more than making good decisions if it does.

I would be extremely reluctant to pay over 500K. Snowden was on around 400K and if he wasn't injured/fat I would rate him as a better player for the team than Bird. 700K is insane money even with TPA.

Any thoughts on Feleti Mateo ? Was release from Salford recently. Know that he is 32 now but could be alright for a one year contract?

Good news that Vaughan missed out for Canberra. Hopefully that means he is surplus to requirements down there.

What are our fullback options for next year now?
I'd give Ross a go.Stone doesn't seem to have considered it.
Pete Mat a possibility. Mamo unless he signs elsewhere. Hopefully not Feeney.
Brown was talking about the need for a "tall centre". I think that need is less when Sione can run wide. Might be on the cards though. If we do send Gagai to the wing.

I really don't understand why we didn't have a serious crack at David Mead on a 2 or 3 year contract. He ticks almost every box for a player that we need (and could hope to get) right now:

- he plays fullback *TICK*
- miles better than our current fullbacks *TICK*
- he actually puts his body on the line *TICK*
- he's experienced *TICK*
- he's underrated *TICK*
- he wouldn't command rep dollars *TICK*
- he's still got a few good years left *TICK*
- seems to have a good attitude *TICK*

I reckon he'd be worth about $300k on the open market given he was being told to look elsewhere by the Titans and the fact that he's not a current or former origin player, and if we could have brought him here for that money that would have been a steal for us, and I'm sure he would deliver on that sort of value. I know the club doesn't discuss recruitment publicly but it's so annoying when these sort of players are on the market and we don't appear to be making any moves to try and bring them in.

You're kidding yourself if you think we weren't making moves.

what exactly to we have to go by to suggest we made any moves?

The only thing i can think of is that Stone wants Mamo, so we are looking to chop mamo and do not have a replacement. Thats pretty much it.

Some may like the fact that the club keep speculation behind closed doors, but I dont. Its shit.

If we are chasing someone, actually come out and say it.

.... and went to the Broncos for apparently $100k. Yeah.

Can someone remind me how the first grade salary cap works. Is it for 25 or 30 players? The cap for 2016 is 6.8 million dollars, so if it is spread over 30 players then then it equals $226,666 dollars per player with a minimum wage of $80,000. This has gotten me thinking on what players are taking up what amount compared to what they should actually be on.

Here are my guesses below, I'm sure some will be way out. The first figure is a guess at what the player is/will be on and the second is what I feel that they should be on based on potential, form and performances over the last 2/3 years

1 Mamo - 270K - 120K
2 Ross - 100K - 180K
3 Gagai - 570K - 380K
4 Pete Mata'utia - 150K - 120K
5 Uate - 500K - 300K.
6 Mullen - 600K - 450K
7 Hodkinson - 600K - 300K
8 Sims - 350K - 300K
9 Levi - 200K - 230K
10 Snowden 375K - 375K
11 S Mataútia - 400K - 350K
12 Barnett - 280K - 280K
13 Smith - 250K - 200K
14 Pauli Pauli 300K - 250K
15 Paea 400K - 250K
16 Mataora 200K - 250K
17 Randell 200K - 100K
18 Stockwell 380K - 290K
19 Rochow 300K - 280K
20 P Mata'utia 150K - 80K
21 C Mata'utia - 180K - 110K
22 Lamb 100K - 100K
23 Cogger 100K - 80K
24 King 80K - 80K
25 Dennis 80K - 80K
26 Feeney 130K - 100K
27 D Saifiti 150K - 250K
28 Elliot 120K - 100K
29 Bhana 180K - 80K
30 J Saifiti 150K - 250K

Based on what I assumed the players were on the total pay equals $7,890,000 which is over a million dollars over the cap. Also what needs to be factored in is the money we are paying for players who are at other clubs like Roberts etc.The money that I felt that the players should have been on is 6,135,000.

I have too much time on my hands....

It doesn't make for good reading does it. There's still about 8 players in your second column on too much imo.
