I didnt expect to be this happy about getting Buhrer and Kosjasent (not even going to ry to spell that right)...

I think im just happy to get away from that glamour club thing we have been going for since Tinks took over in 2012 and are going back to that work-horse style fro BSmiths days.

I know everyone hated Smith at the time (i admit most of my love is in hindsight), but ive never had as much fun watching that knights as i did in 2008-09.

He was close to their best player in 2016 and missed about half the season. Great signing particularly in our current situation.

Fantastic Signing, brown deserves a 3 year extension either way, he has cut so much deadwood, now if he can get a fringe Prop, Vaughn, Evans or anyone decent i'll be very happy.

If we can clear more, for a 2018 Sharks like rebuild, it will be a dream come true.

I agree with the general concensus in here that we need to get a good fullback but I reckon we should have Rossy there for a year then we give Holmes a serious crack in 2018

Lolohea wants to play in the halves so I doubt he'll come here. Dragons will probably offer him massive overs, but if he's smart he should be going to Melbourne.

Maybe we can take Lolohea and offer the Dragons another old has been so they can replace Bunji. They wanted Hodkinson anyway right?

Manly have released a numebr of players from there NRL squad. I think Blake leary and Josh Starling would be great for our NSW cup team if we could sign them to a second tier contract

Zak hardaker is apparently keen to stay in the NRL. Wasn''t great in limted oppurtunities at Penrith but was an excellent fullnack in the super league. Would he be worth a one year contract if we can't land a DWZ or Lolohea?

From Rothfield's article today:

SHOOSH III

WHICH two young Cronulla grand final heroes have been approached by the Newcastle Knights with big-money offers for 2018 and onwards?

http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/sp...k/news-story/d176eb23ec9781ddf15ec74b18c484ac

Given he is a Sharks fan with links to the club I suspect he would be accurate on this.

Holmes is an obvious one.

The other is likely one of Jack Bird, Graham or Feki by my guess.

Graham seems fairly dyed in the wool at Cronulla so I'd be surprised if it's him, and I think Feki is underrated but can't see him being a big money target.

If it is Jack Bird I wonder what position we have in mind for him. He is not worth big money as a centre IMO. Best would be backrow but needs to fill out a bit.

Beale and Townsend are also off-contract but I don't think fit the bill.

Another Daily Tele article says Greg Bird could find out his fate at the Titans within 48 hours.

Toohey's article:

- Uate was contracted to us for $485,000 next year. We will be paying $225,000 of that. Manly are slightly topping up Buhrer to play for us next year.

"Basically, it has worked out financially to be a straight swap. The Knights will outlay the same amount of money next year but will have a utility backrower instead of a winger".

Toohey has quoted a Knights inside source on that.

- Mamo will "almost certainly" be in Super League next year.

- Huddersfield has told Wardle they will release him for 2017 if they can find a replacement centre.

- We are anxiously awaiting the outcome of Greg Bird's Titans meeting this week. The delay has been holding up potential player negotiations elsewhere.

- Simon Woolford will be on the full-time coaching staff next year. He will do work with the NRL squad and sounds like he will be our NSW Cup coach next year.

- Lowrie will go from full-time this year to part-time coach next year for U20's.

I really hope we get Greg Bird.

1) I think he'll be our best player next year. Defensively he is not the best IMO but overall package yes.

2) He will be the main piece in the recruitment puzzle. Signing someone like him will make it easier for others to follow IMO. Off the back of Buhrer and Kostjasyn it would give us some momentum.

I can't stand him as a human so much that I'd rather get another spoon next year than support him.

Additionally, I don't rate him anywhere near as highly for the "cascade" effect, either. We already have the most important piece of that puzzle - Mooney. I assume Mooney is pretty friendly with most of the Sharks players. I would imagine he would have some influence over them by assuring them he's putting us on the same path he put the Sharks on 5 years ago. A promise like that would never feel more real to those blokes than it does right now. Give them the added benefit of playing the position they actually want to play, and we're looking pretty good.

Signing one or both of Holmes and Jack Bird would have a far more tremendous effect on how attractive we look from the outside than signing Scum Bird. Scum Bird can be written off as a retirement cheque, especially with how reluctantly he seems to be coming. Holmes and J. Bird are young stars with many tomorrows that other players would probably have confidence in following.

That's my take, anyway. I think the Mooney-Sharks connection will be our most pivotal avenue to improving the roster. Scum Bird is a footnote by comparison. Also I can't stand the f**ker, I mentioned that right?

I don't know him personally but I like his style on the footy field even if he comes across as a merkin. I think we need that.

The most interesting thing for me is that it sounds like we are only paying Buhrer $260,000 next year, and then Manly are only "slightly" topping him up. His deal here sounds like it is only around $300K a year.
