Yep, the Buhrer signing looks great from every angle to me. Well played, Mooney.

I almost think Bozo and co are letting Barrett dig his own grave.

Very big, but given they're coming out of this basically salary cap neutral, as are we, then I can't imagine they're moving Buhrer on for cap space. I think Barrett legit thinks he can find the old Uate in there somewhere, and has banked more on it than he should have.

How is Matulinos contract status at the moment? There's been whispers that the Warriors have wanted to move him on for a while... which seems bizarre to me. I can only assume he contributes to their lousy player culture... so maybe that's a bit of a red flag for us... but geez he goes good on the field.

Hopefully Hagen is taking notes - this is how you build a roster. From the ground up with value contracts... rather than the lazy/easy option of just signing whatever contract the player managers put in front of you.

It might take longer than I'd like given how much we stink, but it's definitely the right road. Hopefully this year was the worst of it. To be honest, I don't think a lot of the young players we ran this year could be in a premiership winning team aside from the obvious ones like Sione and The Saifitis. Better to know that now than later, I guess. Be curious to know what you see in Pythian, JM? I thought he was ok in very limited time, but really just haven't seen enough of him to make any judgement. I don't think he has shown much more than a bloke like Con Mika at this point, for example.

I've only seen Pythian in his two first-grade outings but I am a huge fan. Gutsy, ball skills and didn't seem overwhelmed. Screamed footballer to me.

I don't know where he fits or what his ceiling is, especially since it seems Levi has the 14 jersey next year, but he seems exactly what Brown is after in his squad and what he has chased in Buhrer and Kostjasyn - hard workers with a great attitude and footy nous.

We need as many competitors as possible if we are going to rebuild from here and I suspect he is one. Con Mika was not.

An interesting quote I remember from Brown after Pythian's debut was that he struck Brown as a kid who cares about the scoreboard. It felt like we were lacking on those this year.

Yeah, fair enough on all accounts. I think we've lacked players that care about the scoreboard for a long time.

It's a fair price for his footballing ability. Maybe a bit steep for a 32 year old... but with the cap only going up and up at the moment, it's not too bad at all.

Toohey saying our Greg Bird offer is around 500K a year. Seems pretty reasonable to me.

Personally really don't want Bird at the club. No doubt he is a good player but not a fan of the person and I believe if your trying to build a culture we should be looking elsewhere especially for 500k a year.

I like Phythian and think he could be a solid role player or squad depth for us. However I would be shocked and very worried if he's our best option at fullback next year. He was very standard in NSW cup this year and while I'm sure there is improvement in him to put him as our starting fullback will have similar results to Feeeny in my opinion

These Sharks targets are for 2018 so no holmes or Bird next year.

With the Jake Mamo experience thankfully touring the UK the only real fb options are Gagai, Pete or rossdawg. I'd give it to Ross, at least he gives a shit.

His deal here sounds like it is only around $300K a year.

Yeah that's what it sounds like. If the uate Buhrer deal is basically a swap there won't be much room left for 2017 if Bird and Wardle both come. Maybe squeeze one or two Heighington level players in.

Gagai is off-contract next year, will be interesting to see if he is kept.

One of Hodkinson and Mullen(both signed til 2018) may be allowed to leave early as well I reckon.

Hopefully we have some money to play with.
