Rumoured Targets 3

Toohey Column today was utterly depressing. We are f###ed unless we can piss Uate and a few others off and the salary cap is tighter in 2017! I hate the salary cap. I would rather go broke trying to win the comp than survive trying to balance the books. A winning side brings it's own money.

Newcastle are in the market for a new forward and word out of the town is they are looking at a forward from the Super League.

We keep hearing one player Nathan Brown is particularly keen on is from Leeds.

The other player they are reportedly chasing is St Helens star James Roby.

The English international is under contract until the end of 2018 however word out of England is the club won’t stand in the hookers way should he want to move to Australia.

The Brown Connection at play? Would be a huge signing in my books, Roby has been fantastic for St Helens this year and will likely be England's 9 in upcoming series against NZ.

Depends on price, but Roby could be a good'un. Would go against Browns earlier comments that we can't carry 3 hookers in the squad as justification for moving Clydsdale on, though.

Hopefully Brown's dislike of having three hookers was more to do with Clydsdale being on ridiculous money. Levi is a genuine hooker, but Randell is in the Gidley basket so far- a jack of all trades but master of none. Would love to see Levi and Roby in rotation next year while Randell is developed more in NSW Cup- he could easily fit into hooker or the halves there to be kept as depth.

And interest shown in a Leeds forward? Gee, if only there was an ex-knight currently playing for Leeds who has been killing it over in England...

Roby is a massive coup if we get him. Quality is quality and Tyler Randall is a utility at best. Roby is the best dummy half outside of Cam Smith currently playing. Roby is also a terrific leader. He is also a very busy defender. He made a season high 62 tackles in one game. Regular ESL team of the year hooker too.

The Leeds forward is probably Mitch achurch. Someone in the media said we were keen on him a few weeks ago

Sportal adamant we are chasing Roby and Farah and have the money to lure one of them. They must know something we do not. Also said we will go after Will Hopoate if we fail to land either Farah or Roby. All I want to take from that is at least Brown is showing ambition and that is encouraging. i doubt Achurch is the Leeds player Brown wants unless it is more about the money left over. Leeds have plenty better players than him. I just hope Clydesdale was on insane money and we get the lot under the cap now he is gone.

I would be making a big play for Ben Teo and move Tariq to the front row.

He would certainly stiffen our defence and moving Tariq to the front row would make our pack more mobile.

I like Potter. Didn't get a fair chance at the Tigers IMO.

Will certainly rule us out of the Farah race though...not that I ever saw him coming here anyway.

Potter is a good coach.
Injuries f**ked us in 2014 to the point where we had props like Corey Patterson on the wing each week but Potter still had us winning games.

Exactly the experienced assistant we've needed for a while. Hopefully we get a couple more in as well. No more players running the joint, or crying to the old boys for help.

Brown and Potter have worked together before but have developed significantly as coaches since the mid 2000s. Potter has made no secret of his desire to coach this club for some time and I think applied for a third time here. Anyways he is a hell of a step up as an assistant. Very encouraging and what cannot be missed about Potter is he has always had the balls to take coaching jobs others would snub due to their egos. He made Le Catalans more than competitive when they started out. No one wanted the Bradford job as they were broke and going to be kicked out of the ESL but he did a great job regardless.

He watched as their incredible junior base was pillaged. Their junior forwards were insanely gifted. Tom, George and Sam Burgess along with Elliott Whitehead and they all went elsewhere due to their money situation. Sound familiar?

One thing I seem to like about Potter is he has that Brian Smith type of attitude where he isn't afraid to ruffle feathers and is a hard nosed kinda guy.

It's what we need.

I'm excited to be led by Brown, Potter and Buderus.
