Rumoured Targets 3

At least were interested in players from the current premiers these days rather than perennially hunting for players from the Dragons

If Hags was here we'd most probably be offering Jeff Robson 3 years @ 600K a year or Chad Townsend just shy of a million per season. Unfortunately that's not even even an exaggeration under the old regime. Hagan really had no clue did he.

Hats off to Brown and Mooney for clearing the decks and at least targetting the right players.

I'm not sure there's many footballers his age that I'd like to have here more. Agree with worrying about his position later, I could see him making a good lock, too. He'd make a good classic running 5/8th, hell it's not like Lamb would need to do much more kicking than he already does.

Does Ponga have a kicking game? Could he develop one? Such a talent. We don't necessarily need all our kicking to come from 7 and 6, either.

That's what I'm thinking too. Bird has too much potential not to go for and play at 6 if that's what he wants. I'm guessing Ponga, with all that obvious natural talent, might actually have a decent boot on him as well. Levi can kick a bit out of dummy half and should be encouraged to keep getting better. Phythian wherever he plays we know will bring a kicking game - halves, back-up fullback, bench utility, possibly even centre if lose Gagai or Ross.

Barnett is kicking as often Hodko right now, so there's always a way around it if you do go with a non-kicking 6 in Bird. That said, do we know for sure that Bird can't kick? Maybe he can but it's not part of his job.

I certainly didn't realise Phythian had the best long kicking game at the club until he was given a chance and we saw it. So somewhere in Ponga / Phythian / Lamb / Bird / Levi I think we would work it out.

Good question and one I hope we have to find an answer for.
Pythian is still unproven but has potential.
Can Ponga play halfback?
1. Pythian/Ponga
6. Bird
7. Ponga/Pythian
9. Levi
Holy shit!

Pythian would be a great utility bench option. I see him getting plenty of first grade for us whether we get Bird or not. Can cover anywherr on the spine and three quarters. Syarts whenever there is an injury.

I havent posted in a while but it's great to finally see the club focus on the spine first. I think we've been throwing money at players in the wrong positions. Focus on the spine and fill out the rest with home grown or quality cheapies around the NRL and abroad.

Welcome back, buddy. Agreed, Mooney and Brown seem to be operating pretty sharply with recruitment. Can't seem to fault them yet.

I met Jack a few times when he was still in the Steelers juniors (friend of a friend)...

He was such a nice bloke and struck me as so disciplined and so determined to succeed that i could tell he'd make the NRL without ever even seeing him play.

I will say though that im bloody shocked at just how good he is (id place him as NSWs best hope in the halves). Throw the checkbook at him, he's one of the few id be happy to do that for....

There are also a lot of people out there that don't think he's a halves asshole.

We definitely need a dominant half to steer the ship, organise the troops and lay down the law. Fingers crossed lamb is that person. I haven't paid too much attention but is lamb a big talker? Is he organizing the guys on the field? Because hodkison isnt.

Kalyn Ponga can't come quick enough
Looking forward to watching him tonight. As excited as I am about him, I have to temper my expectations of an 18 year old playing in a spine position. If he kills it over the next few weeks then I'm going to be frothing deluxe.

Knights have withdrawn their offer to Scott.

Surely we make offers to woods and lolo now.

Don't really want to get Adam Blair he can be lazy, but he's on the market as well.

Sounds like Prior will be our next target then if we've withdrawn our offer to Scott. On 2016 form Prior would be a good buy.

I'm not sold on Woods, he churns out decent numbers each week but I don't feel that he has enough impact on a game. Not really a dominant forward and doesn't really intimidate rival packs. I feel like we would have to offer him big bucks as well because he's a SOO rep and a current club captain. I would prefer that we look elsewhere.

No thanks to Blair, not on my radar at all. Doesn't fit the mould of the culture that Brown is trying to create imo.

I'd throw everything but the kitchen sink at 'lolo. Prior... one good season of form in a premiership winning team does not erase the earlier years of plod in my mind. Blair, no thanks. Woods is soft, hard worker but soft.

Unfortunately none of these names actually tick all the boxes that we wanted out of Scott. Even 'lolo, as good as he is, isn't that old head to teach the younger kids.

What possible box does Lolo leave to be ticked?, lol. Guy is a freak.

Finucane ticks these boxes nicely, is he still on our radar or is he all but re-signed at the Storm?
