Rumoured Targets 3

I don't mind Starling he's never going to be a superstar prop and run for 200 metres but he is prepared to take some tough hitups in our own half. Something the Sims brothers and others weren't prepared to do.

Graham would be amazing but I doubt it's true. The dogs are not a team that need to lose players to sign who they want.

Dogs are after Woods/Tedesco and theres rumours of a major cleanout happening and they are gonna offload some big name forwards. Obviously Graham's numbers are still great but he's been a bit flat these last two years Imo. And also getting old. Where there's smoke theres usually fire with these sorts of things, would love to get him.

Last night really highlighted how much we need a couple of quality front rowers. Our big boys are having a go but there's just no leader out there. We need someone to take the game by the scruff of the neck and dominate the middle of the field.

I was hoping the Saifitis would step up to that role and they still may do so over time but at the moment they're playing like marshmallows.

I think everyone is being a bit too harsh on the twins. Their form is certainly down on last season but they're a pair of 19-20 year old props expected to lead a pack. Come on now. Most rookies struggle their second year anyway and forwards don't hit their peaks until much later.

They're burnt out now but they'll bounce back. The issue isn't the Saifitis. It's that we don't have a depth of quality/experienced props to choose from so the form of a couple of just out of NYC props actually matters to us when it really shouldn't. Brown has already identified prop as an area of need though. The likes of Starling were just brought in on the cheap to fill a gap while we rebuild and Stockwell has already been tapped on the shoulder once.

Picking up unwanted players that their previous club pays part of their salary, this was a Flanno/Moons specialty.
Hopefully that is the next step that Moons brings to your team.
Or has he already done that with Buhrer?

I totally agree with this. It's 100% on the money. However, they would do well with a decent stint in reserves. Brown has really looked after them so far this season, for the reasons you've outlined but they're not even standing up to that atm.

They are just way off the pace in games. I hope they have the motors I thought they would have in years to come. Again patience is needed with them - they are kids.

We desperately need to find 2 decent props who know the job, week in, week out. And we need them immediately.

Cute that you're assuming it's just Brown. Lets not forget for a second that Mooney is behind these signings too, the same bloke that signed Jack Bird to Cronulla to begin with; I'm sure we wouldn't be throwing big money at him if he didn't think he was worth it and the same applies to Ponga.

The man is responsible for building your premiership winning team but suddenly you doubt the way he's managing our cap with new signings? Struggling to find the logic there.
Ummm except we got Bird at about a quarter of the price you guys did. That's clever recruiting.

You've completely missed the point. The fact is the same guy that recruited him to your club to begin with, has a considerable say in how much we're offering him. If he didn't think he was worth that much, we wouldn't be offering him 900-950k.

Broncos have made a last minute play for Jack Bird.

From the same article:

The Sharks haven’t been resting on their laurels. Flanagan has spoken to Canterbury five-eighth Josh Reynolds but it is understood those talks had nothing to do with the future of five-eighth James Maloney, who has been a covert target for the Knights.

It is understood Newcastle made it clear they would be interested in Maloney if he could extricate himself from the final year of his deal with Cronulla.

If we signed Maloney what's the bet sharks fans would try and tell us he can't kick and cant pass and isn't worth whatever we would pay him?

I actually think I would be more excited about Maloney than Bird. I think he would make a great combination with Ponga. Only thing is moving Hoko on.
