Rumoured Targets 3

Am I the only one thinking another drawn out pursuit of a big name is the worst possible approach for us now? Cronk won't decide for ages and we'll be left with nothing for the 1% chance he signs with us.

We need to start spending now, if only to prove to others that we can build a competitive team. Brown could identify a list of available young talented halves and really go in for two of them without it even scratching the surface of our cap space. It's the chance to play first grade that is our trump card for young halves (plus a big fat pay rise).

If we picked up two of Martin / Hingano / Nu Brown / Watson (the only one not off contract) then those two plus Lamb could battle it out for starting spots. We would still be able to throw money at forwards, and those forwards could see some potential building. I would personally rather that than another futile chase of a superstar.

I like how people seem to think we can pick and choose and refuse to pay overs for quality players.

Paying overs for 'quality' players is a no brainer.

Paying Bennett, Stone and Hagan overs for what they deemed to be quality is a totally different scenario.

Asofa solomona is still yet to sign. He is one guy that I'd go after the same way we went after ponga. Take the risk with big dollars.

Have seen a few games of his and he is an absolute beast, he looks like a future superstar.

He is in the storm system, so he has great players around him, but he has a lot of individual brilliance about him too.

The Knights dead set have the worst luck in the NRL and have for a long time.

I've lost count of the amount of players who we signed who were considered to be the best young players going around ie Beau Henry, Alex Mckinnon, Wicks, Stockwell etc who either received shocking injuries or never kicked on. Then there are players that we signed in positions that we needed improvement who stuffed up off the field ie Packer, Tetavano etc. Our Spine has been demolished over the years through injuries or stupidity ie Mullen (drugs/injuries), Kidley injuries, Pythian injured catching a simple kick, Hodko NSW half to plodder, Levi (injuries). Then there are new signings to give as experience who get injured ie Buhrer, Kostjasyn.

Throw in the sh!t referring and judiciary rulings and is there any surprise we are working towards our third spoon in a row.

On the plus side, Ross has been doing well...

Cronk would be simply amazing. I think if we snag Cronk, Graham and a couple more would join us.

If all Cronk wants is $1m a year, that's soooooooo easy for us. Give him all he wants and more. He is such a professional, great leader and winner. Just make him assistant coach part time as well.

He has said in media he'd consider a challenge for his next move... well f**k me. Ain't no bigger challenge then the Knights in the NRL right now. Let's get it done footy gods!

Exactly... If Cooper is serious about a taking on a challenge for his next career move then he should come here and help us rebuild our club. If he comes in and manages to guide the young guys and help us set up a successful future then he would deserve some serious plaudits for being the guy who put his hand up to do it.

I just can't see it happening. And in the meantime every promising young half on the market will sort out their future while we wait for Cronk to decide.

We need an injection of talent. Realistically that means looking to the good halves who can't get an opportunity at their current clubs and making them an offer they can't refuse. Lamb needs help, any help.

Cronk is a 100 to 1 to sign with us. If it happens I will bow down to Brown and Mooney, but I think we need to be realistic and make certain of getting at least one half with some talent and growth potential. There are a few left yet, but might not be post Origin.

Throw whatever it takes at him. Let him live in Sydney half the time, give him the big dollars. Cronk's a bit of a robot, but a super pro and would be huge in a mentoring capacity.

I can't see why he would do it, I probably wouldn't in his position. Unless every club in Sydney has knocked him back or lowballed him at this point... which may be the case I guess.

No reason why we still can't go after young halves and there is nothing to say that we aren't going after them.

He doesn't really have anything else to prove. Live with the missus during the week, earn some massive coin playing footy on the weekends. Sounds pretty good to me.

The issue with young halves is that we don't have enough experienced players around them to help them grow and improve. We as a fan base have been pretty critical of Lamb so far this year because he was getting so many wraps before he came into first grade and so far hasn't lived up to it. But the reality is that he is trying to organize a predominantly U20s/NSW Cup standard team in the NRL week to week and he's unsurprisingly struggling. And to make matters worse the few experienced guys we have in the squad have been struck down by injury, suspended for drugs or have been dropped for poor form. Bringing in another couple of Brock Lambs into the squad isn't going to help much because the environment we have right now isn't conducive to making these guys successful.

We could go out and buy 2 or 3 young halves on potential but I don't think the environment we have right now is conducive to them being successful. I'm not saying we shouldn't look at youth at all but if we fill our crucial spine positions with young up and comers then I think we'll pretty much see the same sort of stuff from them that we've seen from Lamb so far and it's unlikely to change until we have a big name or two to show them how it's done.

Why the hell would Cronk spend two years commuting four hour round trips to get flogged? I am sure he could sell a boat or two to sustain himself.

Especially when the cattle surrounding him are yankee gridiron cast offs who've never played the game before in their life!

Career suicide!

The list off contract is available and I've already posted above some of them, but Nu Brown, Hingano are off contract, Te Maire Martin is potentially being shopped around, Watson less likely but not impossible. It's not like there are zero options.

All I'm saying is I'll be extremely disappointed if we talk and talk about Cronk and sign no halves at all once he inevitably says thanks but no thanks.
