My belief is that the majority of the time players take the money. There's only one club they go to where they are more than happy to take massive, massive unders. And Gagai isn't going to Brisbane ........ yet.

He has a 600K option. If a 700K plus offer has been made to him from another club then I think he'd take it as I can't see Brown offering too much more than the current option.

Would he stay if we matched it??? Not sure. He'd want to play out of his effing skin every week if he bags 700K plus off us.
I would be surprised if he uprooted his life for no financial gain, or even an insignificant financial gain. If he wants to leave because he has lost faith in Browns ability to turn us into a winning team, that's another thing entirely and again, not a good look. If we'd need to pay him $1 million or something to stay when another club is offering $700k then we're screwed pretty much.

Agreed.

I understand the points many are making about losing him and the worry it creates about possible recruits. However, I dont think we should be held to ransom over it. Yes we need quality players but there has to be some rules we follow here and paying 700K plus for a centre of Dane's quality is breaking them imo.

If it were a spine player of the highest standard we were discussing I'd be screaming at Brown and Mooney to pay almost whatever it takes to keep the the player.

For all the difficulties we have faced in recruiting, we definitely can't say that we haven't had a shot at trying to recriut the best players available in the positions we most need to fill.

I reckon we will be the Bin Chickens of the NRL, picking over the players everyone else wants to get rid of.

If they are genuine first graders and better than what we have in the position I say take them as long as the price is right.

If Brown can lift them to mid table respectability and leave some room in the cap it is a step fwd. And it proves one way or the other whether he can coach at this level.

Jury still out on that one. For all the talk of young players improving dramatically I haven't seen it. Bit unfair as they're in a shithouse team of course. In terms of the players that might be good one day improvement from last year.

D Saifiti - treading water
Sione - gone backwards
J Saifiti - backwards
Levi - improved
Lamb - treading water
Stone - improved hugely

Would be fantastic to surround them with quality and experience to fairly judge if they are actually any good.

We are comparing them to young players coming in to established teams, or at least playing alongside established players.

Look at Penrith last year - yes they had a lot of young players, but they also had established current or former rep players like Moylan, Wallace, Merrin, Mansour. No coincidence that their young players looked great... I think they are a level above ours anyway, but its not like you can do a blind study in controlled conditions.

Any young player is going to look average when surrounded by average - I reckon you need at least a half dozen established first graders to even carry a few kids, let alone a heap of them.

We have a team made up of rejects now, not sure that "NFL" adds to the temerity of the situation. But you have your fun, champ.
Dude, it's the stupidest idea to ever grace these forums. There are so many reasons why it won't work, yet you still cling to it.

If you're so certain that it will work, then bring it up with Midley at your next meeting. I'm pretty sure you'll find him not returning any of your calls very soon after

How is losing our only rep player a good thing? How? On top of that we have so much cap and nowhere to spend it... How is that a good situation? How would SKD signung after we lose Gagai be a good thing? We need to keep our best players and add quality. Not lose our best player and sign a worse player for more money...

Gagai is on close to $600k per year and reportedly asking for more than $700k for this contract. The SKD deal was like $300k per year

Sweet, another $300-$400k to spend on nobody. We're not going to be able to fill our cap with the calibre of players we're going to end up with.
