The more I think about it, the more I think that 650K is waaay overs. We need to invest in our spine. Paying overs on a centre based in wishful thinking is not smart business. He has potential but really that is about it. He has seldom delivered and there is no guarantee that he will end up being a player worth rep money.

TBO he's worth 500K at best based on what he's dished up over the last number of years.

Just because he has played for QLD doesn't mean he is a rep quality player. If he was singled out in defense like he had been in club footy, then we might very well be discussing a player who embarrassed himself at rep footy. Lucky for him he was a part of a truly great team that made it easier for him. I'd be completely shocked if a player decided to sign or not sign and based on whether Gagai is here. We aren't talking about an Andrew Johns or Paul Harragon here.... It's Dane F#cking Gagai....

Yep, 40 minutes of football and I've changed my mind. Gags can take the offer or leave it, regardless of cap space or whatever. I really like the guy and I hope he stays, but centres can only have so much impact in todays game... and when I watch a bloke who we did let walk like Tapine, I gotta say I'm glad we didn't spend the money there too.

I still worry about all the things I've spoken about, though. Missing out on so many rep quality players, and then letting one go that we could feasibly keep is a very hard pill to swallow at the moment.

I'm still not sold on the title - rep quality player. Yes he is a rep player, just like Sione played for Australia, but I'm not convinced that either are rep quality at this stage.

Sione definitely has class, a few rough edges still. Whether he's a rep quality backrower I'm not sure. give him a couple more years honing his game and I don't think he'd let any team he's in down though. He'll still be in his early 20's in 2 years time.

Wouldn't it be nice if we had kept the "right" ones the last few years and he was packing in beside Boyd Cordner and Josh Jackson? Easier to look amazing with quality around you.
