Souths can have him right now in exchange for Gray and Musgrove. We'll throw in his untalented brother aswell.

Not coming here to rustle jimmies but I'm also a bit shocked with gagai allegedly coming to Souths. Like Inglis he seems better at centre, but the $$ are at fullback, which ironically doesn't make any more sense because that where inglis is meant to be staying. After an acl though, doubtful.

I will however be pissy if we loose Gray, AJ or both. Either one in your side, particularly Gray would be a good get.

We've been mentioned in the same breath as Gray a couple of times, I'd certainly love to have him.

Odd that fans on both sides of the fence are a bit weirded out by this signing. It's definitely an odd one... you don't exactly need him, and if Madge thinks he can make a top class fullback out of him I think he's dreaming.

It's timing is odd too. From all
Accounts we had lattrel Mitchell in the works. Only f**king SKD could f**k over another clubs potential signing by being busted with coke. Naturally Mitchell gets recalled to 1st grade and kills it so maybe we've gone cold.

Hoppa would fit the bill of what Browny's looking for; experienced at club & rep level, won a grand final, can play anywhere in the backline & is decent size. I'd be surprised if we haven't made an enquiry.

It's a bit f**king ridiculous that we still don't know what the cap is for next year. Unfortunately we seem to be betting that rich clubs won't get their way. It feels like a losing bet, it's a bold gamble.

Well if we are losing Gagai then it changes things in a big way for us. Personally I wanted to keep him but it's not up to me

So what do we do?

Do we go all out for a replacment centre?
Do we take a punt on moving Ross to the right side centre spot and look for/promote a winger?
Do we promote a young guy like Deniss straight to centre and look at a depth signing?

I think we have decent enough outside backs now to make a fist of things if need be, especially with Ponga coming in but we need depth. We are in dire need of good front rowers and a good organising half, that's where we need to focus imo

Unfortunately what we need is not on the market, at least "yet".

If, as will probably happen, the big clubs bully the NRL into a big cap or even worse a "soft" (ie no) cap, we are royally screwed

I personally think we stick to the plan. Briwn was looking for 1 or 2 big rangy outside backs, that doesnt change. Plus some bug exoerienced metre eaters and if the right player comes up, an elite half.

Screwed for 2018 agreed. But it has to normalise next year. Losing 12 months in the plan is not ideal, but not the end of the world either. Players will come off contract next year too....

No where near as many, and other clubs will just TPA them anyway,

I've done a bit of a trawl though the off-contract list and there's still some realistic names I'd be happy to land that wouldn't break the bank.

Outside backs;

Blake Ferguson
Will Hopoate
Aaron Gray
Curtis Rona
Gideon Gela-Mosby
Kato Ottio

My guess is Fergo & Hoppa would be looking at $400k-450k each, but we could probably get any 3 of the bottom 4 names (maybe all 4) for the same price as Gagai. Ottio & GGM would add some much needed speed.

In the forwards;

Luke Lewis
Agnatius Paasi
Albert Vete
Sitaleki Akauola
John Asiata
Scott Bolton
Nelson Asofa-Solomona
Tim Grant
Sam Tagatese
Jeremy Latimore
Jacob Lillyman
Robbie Rochow

Lewis doesn't really make sense because our backrow is already covered, but in terms of experience and leadership there's not many better than him. Wants to play another season too apparently. Paasi, Vete & Akauola's impact would be great. Asiata wants to be a starter, and we could use a middle forward with his playmaking ability. Would help Brown's plan of having all 17 players share the kicking duties, too. Scott Bolton isn't a fashionable name but he's been great this season in Matt Scott's absence. Asofa-Solomona is probably a pipe dream but hopefully we at least put in a good offer. The others are just journeymen type players but could be decent depth/bench options.

Not much doing in terms of halves & hookers.

The clubs with the TPAs (Broncos, Dogs, Roosters) have they spines locked away for the most part. I am bullish our time will come. If we cannot get top of the line elite, get sone younger guys with 1st grade experience and plenty of upside.

The Broncs will prob make a big play for Ash Taylor but outside that we will get our chance.

I still think Lillyman is worth a go.
