That’s why Gavet and Mann are both playing this week.
Yeah, I don't agree with those picks myself. I said as much after the Tigers game. That isn't a defense of Herman, though. It's not his job to pick the team, and Mann hasn't exactly been an auto-pick. If Edrick were fit he wouldn't be in the team. Gavet has been my main problem with the team all year, I don't know why he continues to make the cut. I also don't make up stories in my head to get angry about, either.

Reports are Ramien is only on $250k which is probably half what some clubs would be willing to pay, I have no doubts his management have been in his ear and have been actively trying to get him more money either through an upgrade or shopping him around illegally

Apparently he is coming back to Cronulla, we are just looking to offload another player.
I read back through the pages, his hands and defence seem a big concern for you guys, he was a sound defender and had great hands with us,
Maybe his head and heart just weren't in the club?

This whole thing is a bit of a shame. He’s obviously an exceptional talent but somewhere along the line the relationship between himself and the club has soured to the point where he wants out. I’m not upset that we’re letting him walk if his head isn’t in it but it does put us in a bit of a tricky spot with outside backs.

This means that resigning/upgrading Hunt is a must and we should probably be on the lookout for another bargain basement outside back in that sort of mould as well.

Considering the money we have tied up in Pearce, Ponga and Klemmer I think we just stick with a couple of fairly cheap centres for the time being. Ultimately if we’re not going to be attacking down the right too often then we might as well just sign someone cheap who can do a decent job defensively and at least catch the ball when someone passes to them. At this stage I’d rather we invest proper $$$ in a good right edge second rower rather than chase an elite centre.

No money but will have some if those proposed as leaving do go, my point was I would rather buy a good 5/8 than any other position, Hunt, Moga and Mann along with Best and others is good enough.

I don't think defensively he's been that bad, he's probably been a victim of Mann and Barnett inside him. My issue is his error rate and the fact he's become a one dimensional power centre instead of having a combination of power, speed, footwork, etc. To me he looks overweight, last year he looked like a well built outside back, this year he looks like a middle forward

good luck with him. This speaks volumes of the mans character. What team player quits on his mates 3/4 of the way through a season ? or doesnt try his very best to not let down other team mates? Being part of a team means you bust yourself for ya mates, for the team, for pride in yourself as much as anything.

Talent in one thing, content of character is another.

Herman did enough last season to be automatic selection for round one this season.
Brown mentioned that Herman had some defensive lapses that’s why he wasn’t picked for one round, yet Sione’s defence was atrocious all of last season yet Sione is always an automatic selection no matter how he plays.
Speaking of which Brown can bang on about players not trying yet Sione against the Roosters made 1 run for 7m in 64 mins.
I can see why Herman wants out and why Ramien was happy to leave.

Again, double standards at the club.

Don’t know how much truth there is to it but Paul Kent said on Matty Johns last night that a few other players in the team haven’t been happy with his efforts for quite some time.

No greater condemnation than that of your peers. In Army we gave them a flogging after lights out - worked a treat.

Jesse Ramien's problems with the Knights started with him being unhappy at not getting the football in his hands earlier in the season. Than came word about issues surrounding his management and the possibility of him changing stables when agent Gavin Orr's contract came up this month.

It was apparently then that he was regularly getting reminded the $250,000 contract he signed with the Knights after playing just one NRL game for the Sharks was massive unders and he could be earning far more elsewhere. At around the same time, we understand Ramien took offence to coach Nathan Brown not whole-heartedly publicly endorsing him for an Origin berth when NSW needed a centre prior to Origin I.

Jesse Ramien

It has simmered ever since with Ramienproducing some hot and cold [mainly cold] form along the way. Then the speculation grew that rivals were being sounded out and senior players pulled Ramien aside after his poor game against the Roosters to find out if there was any underlying issues.

They were apparently told everything was fine. But it got back to the club in the past week that a family member had allegedly approached Cronulla on Ramien's behalf seeking a possible return. Despite denials from Ramien, Brown and CEO Phil Gardner had felt for quite some time he didn't want to be at the club.

That's when they knew for certain.

A shame it’s all ended like this.

I can’t blame players looking after their own interests. Careers are short. Clearly he felt he was underpaid, which you can probably cop for a year or two. But if he felt the Knights weren’t giving him the opportunity to be the player he could be and make reps that compounds things.

From hearing one side of the story it seems Ramien was pretty hasty in all this but if he didn’t get along with his boss(Brown) it can make your life pretty miserable. In your career, go where you’re loved.

I have no doubt Ramien will find another club in no time and be happy he made the decision to leave. But equally I don’t think we will miss him on the footy field. It just didn’t work out.

Bash-and-barge style centres don’t age well. He needs to be more than that. My gut feel is Ramien is already peaking as a footy player(save for the current dropsies which should pass) and has a window of a few years which he is currently in. I don’t think we’ll regret this too much even in the medium term. But I could be wrong.
