From a performance point of view I wouldnt be that devastated if Gagai left but i just hope this doesnt spook potential recruits given the fact he is our only current origin player.
This is pretty much where I landed after some thought and watching yesterdays game. It's a bad look, it's more shitty off-field news... but at the end of the day, he can be replaced.

At the end of the day, if he's willing to take less to go elsewhere, then there's not much more to say on the matter.

Yeah I'm at the same place you are too pervy

If it was a matter of $ then we could do more but it seems it is more than that

Hopefully we can snag an experienced centre to replace him. Not sure any are off contract that I like though

If Brisbane didn't steal Jack Bird, not only would Dane stay, we'd have signed more players. F#ck Wayne Bennett.

Now, we got nothin'. I feel like Randy Quaid's kids in the National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation: 'we've been good all year and we still got the shaft.'

If SKD doesn't get run over by the courts I think he comes right back in the fold for us.
Well, we never make the finals, so at least he'll never do something this grandly stupid as a Knight:

God... I have so little interest in signing this pretender. lol, the pass wouldn't have even made the distance if Boyd left it.

You're not looking at the bright side. That vision is a future Knight with a try assist to a previous Knight.

Welcome aboard SKD.

Was my favourite SKD moment until it seemed like we were going to sign him. Those 10 seconds of football sum him up for me. Dick fingers and a dick brain.

Sucks to lose Gagai but in the modern NRL centres are very replacapble. Gagai has been good this year but I don't think he has been that much better than Ross or Pete Mata'utia

How have you come up with that very long drawn bow?

Jack Bird signs, other players get more comfortable that we just might be on the up and are happy to take a chance and some massive cash.
Suddenly, when it comes to resigning Gagai you can say to him 'yeah, we're rubbish, but we've got Ponga, Bird, (insert name of one or two big forwards) coming to help you lot next year.'

Bird was the first domino in my opinion.

Do Souths still have those cushy indigenous education roles that were funded by Twiggy Forrest? I vaguely remember an article about Greg Inglis getting $50k to show up to something once or twice a year.

This is really up to Gagai. He has the one year option but has chosen to play the market.
The killer for me was his move to fullback. We have Ponga next year and It shows the lack of faith in Gagai's defence.
I reckon he'll go better with another club and won't be a major loss to us unless it has flow on effects.
I wish him well though. He has put it in for us.

It's weird though, I can't believe he resigned last time and said no to the Broncos. He was clearly happy to play in a garbage team, he's close with Brown, his brother is settled here, why decide now that you've got to go? Is it really a bit more money?

I've got no ill will towards Gagai. He's been a great clubman and hasn't dragged it through the mud like so many of the other have.

Like others have said though, the worst thing is how it looks to recruits when we're really struggling to sign anyone.

All we need is one, just one, big name to give us a chance and it might just give some others to follow suit.

Nobody will give us a shot though and it's really depressing beccause it's painfully obvious to me that we have a lot of tough and talented young kids that are busting their guts and want to win but they need a bit of experience and game breaking talent to help them get there.

Yeah, it doesn't seem to add up on the surface of it. It can't be about the money, if it is then he's got the worst accountant in the world (or worst manager, perhaps). The only thing that makes much sense to me is that Gags can't see himself winning a premiership here anymore, and I can't blame him at all for chasing one.

One can obviously point out that Souths aren't too much closer to one than we are... but the sell is probably a lot stronger from their side of the fence. Get to play with Inglis, Burgess, etc.

To be honest I think all Gagai's supposed love for the Broncos and Bennett has mostly been drummed up by the "the Broncos rule and everyone else sucks" Qld media. I don't think he's really ever had the huge desire to go back there that the CM reported.

If it was about wanting to win a premiership he would have gone up there, not Souths. They're not much closer to winning one than us IMO. It's about the Indigenous angle/Inglis I think - either that or they've given him the same kool aid they gave Rochow to make him think they're going to win a comp in the next year or two.

Yeah, it's just a bit weird to me that he didn't take his last opportunity to leave, but this one (a far inferior one, on the surface anyway) is the goods.

Also, based on his character for as long as he's been at the Knights... I could only say it's surprising to me for him to "take the money" anyway.
