Rumoured Targets 3

Still Nutty

who would you go for ....who's your top 3 halves targets ?
On the young up and comers front who you might consider...
Jonah Pezet - slipped through the fingers but probably never likely to stay after his dad was moved on
AJ Brimson(21) is contracted to 2022 (and I think they are likely to keep him after that, if they can build a bit more of a roster under Holbrook)
Tom Deardon(19) is contracted to end 2021 -apart from Broncos likely to want to resign and extend him (I suspect whoever the new coach is will want to lock him up), there is already also plenty of interest from other clubs including the Storm
Kyle Flanagan (20) signed up by the Roosters to the end of 2022 - with the Roosters salary cap sombrero he won't be available unless they aren't interested in keeping him
Matt Burton(21) signed up by Panthers until 2021 - talk that, if he is likely to move, he could possibly follow Barrett to the Bulldogs who would have $$ to lure him by then
Phoenix Crossland - already here but for some reason O'Brien sees a hooker instead of a half...I would have liked to see him given a decent run in the halves (a la Mann and his guaranteed run) to see what he could offer?
Tex Hoy - seems more suited to fullback but maybe in O'Brien's longer term plans to come into the halves...not sure he is the option O'Brien would be seeking for 2021 to partner Pearce

On the older players....

Foran - everybody in positions to know have said Foran isn't coming here, so I'm not going to buy into the pros and cons of this as an option
Luke Brooks - Tigers til end of 2023 - don't see him being moved before then anyway
Benji Marshall (35) - being shown the door by Madge...looking for a 1 year swan song deal

Market for quality halves is relatively bare at present and any that come on the scene are probably going to attract overs in the next 2 - 3 years....

On a side note, we seem to be looking to ESL a bit at present (e.g. Young, Hodgson) - wonder if we are looking for somebody from that talent pool to attract to the club - anybody got any ideas or feel about options from there?

I'd take Brooks if Tigers pay half, he's a lot better than the last two years form
He's not been in positions conducive to success but he's doesn't elevate anyone around him or play at a high level consistently. Have we shown that we have the ability to get the most out of a player like that?
If we got him at Foran's price... Maybe.

He can pass and kick better than Mann/Hoy/Watson, not a high bar I know.

Maybe he can find that 2018 form again, but people say the same thing about Pearce.

But he's a terrible defender meaning he'd be unlikely to be on O'Brien's radar.

If people want to pile on Pearce wait until you get Brooks whose ceiling is probably Pearce.

If it were up to me:

1. Foran/Marshall

Offers experience and hopefully the leadership to take over from Pearce. Will be as important off the field as on it. I think it'll be really good for the development of Crossland and Hoy.

2. Matt Burton

Looks gun. I personally like Crossland but Burton looks miles and miles ahead in development. I would build my team around a spine of Ponga, Burton and Brailey

3. Hynes/Flanagan

Rate them the best options but no chance we get them next season and probably way down for their choice destination anyway. Pity.

Benji from his own words is on peanuts, getting a man who wants to go out on his own terms with his experience, he is better than what we currently have at 6.

with his experience and Tigers DNA I'm surprised theyre moving him on. Marshal is the least of the Tigers worries.

"Tiger DNA"
That kind of mentality is what holds teams back. He should never have been brought back. It has halted any succession planning at the Tigers. His signing was more a business decision than a football decision.

On field, he's a huge part of their worries. He's the second worst half in the competition for combined linebreak causes + try causes. He's only better than Brodie Croft. I excluded Drinkwater from this since he's played fullback too.

Yes he can produce flashes of brilliance still but it's not enough when you're a turnstile.

A clubs DNA is important so I disagree.

Not sure where you're getting your stats from there.

Marshal stats from only 12 games.

Attack - in 5/8 rankings

Try assists - 2nd
Try contributions 5 - equal 5th the leaders are on 10 ( ahead of Walker and Wighton )
Total Try involvements - 5th
Total points - 5th
Line break assists - 3rd
Kick mtrs - 7th

Defense - in 5/8 rankings

Missed tackles - 34 ( better than Mann and Wighton )
Ineffective tackles - 14 ( better than Mann, Johnson and Brown )
Tackle efficiency - 78% ( poor but better than a host of big names - Keary is 82% )

Hell no, hasn't played for over 4 years and let's remember he refused to cooperate with Asada and was banned for 4 years instead of the usual 2 so to me that rings alarm bells about the people he was prot3cting and associated with
the media would have a field day. Nothing but bad press.

It’s an automatic 4 year ban. I’m sure Xerri would rather two years though.

My mistake. Both Croft and Milford are worse than Marshall.
