I think most of us were happy with him last year given where we were as a team and before his $$$ became a talking point. He was never going to take us all the way, but he was doing his job. The last injury finished him. He was poor (but not alone) in the trials and we all hoped it was just trial form but unfortunately it seems like it was just the new baseline.

If only our players were actually selfish about winning. The top clubs player’s see the fans as secondary to their own ambitions I think you will find. They are not there to represent the people first. The admiration of fans at top clubs comes from the winning. Ours has sadly been built on the complete opposite. Is there anything more irritating than a fan with rose coloured glasses.

Pezet is insurance for Hughes going down in Round 1. Unlike the knights the Storm still want to win games even if one of their key players gets injured.

They can't afford to keep him on anything more than base wage and if he asks to leave for a bigger money deal they realistically can't stop him. Things have changed a hell of a lot since 2022 when they signed him. He's coming off an ACL injury and now has Wishart ahead of him in the pecking order. Doubt he wants to remain their 3rd string halfback

The overly coached crap our players spit out about "doing it for the fans" and how much they love the fans and stuff drives me nuts tbh. f**k off with the platitudes and go out there and rip in already.

Less talk about the fans in the media coaching and locker rooms and more talking about their own ambitions for sure. We'll come along for the ride if they play to win. It's nice to be appreciated, but it'd be nicer to not have to suffer while watching them.

Sadly, the days are very much gone where players genuinely played for whom they are representing. I'm not going to say "Back in my day...", but when I was growing up, players played for Newcastle, Brisbane, Parramatta, ect. These days the players play for the Knights who just happen to play home games in Newcastle, the Broncos who happen to be based in Brisbane, ect.

I know it was a golden moment in time, forever in the past, but look at the 1997 team as an example. Most were from the Hunter, so they passionately represented their people on the national stage. They played for their region and the fans. Most of the 'we play for the fans' talk these days is purely aesthetic. Because it looks good.

2013 was a season where we all felt we had finally arrived. Yes our owner was an overly ambitious and arrogant fool but at least he got what it took to be a winner. He literally called Snowy the week he was due to re-sign with the Sharks and changed his mind. To give you an insight into Tink’s bravado he actually told Snowy he had signed Bennett. I have a mate who worked under the Hunter Ports team. Knew the ins and outs well. The realty was he hadn’t even spoken to Clint Eastwood yet.
But he rolled the dice on everything. We came within 80 mins of a premiership. In his second year of owning us. 12 months later it was in ruins. Very rock and roll. But the club felt alive and legit. I would love to re-live that just one more time before I die.

I remember Beau Scott also had a massive year in 2014. Ended up being a waste

I mainly remember 2014 as the year McKinnon had his injury. But totally forgot about Mullo being injured too. Everything went to shit that year.

The Tinkler era was basically one half decent year where we caught fire just at the right time and went on a nice little run to a prelim. But outside of that 2012 and 2014 were both pretty disappointing and the 3 years after that were disastrous and we still haven’t recovered as a club and it feels like we’re just constantly rebuilding.
