Rumours and Stuff

In those 5 years Arthur has had to deal with not only a massive salary cap scandal, but also having his best player leave the club halfway through an offseason. Plenty of injury issues, plus upper management that would be lucky to be able to organise a chook raffle.

I’m not saying he is completely blameless, but there have been very few coaches who have had to deal with the shit BA has had to put up with.

Regardless of everything you mentioned that still doesn’t justify having the worst attack in the NRL and getting the spoon with the roster we have. The Bulldogs and Storm also had to deal with salary cap scandals and they won competition 2 years later and the next year respectively. There’s no excuse for how the club performed this season.

He’s mostly right, but what a garbage article.
Isn’t he supposed to be a professional journalist? That’s an incredibly weak article, even for an opinion piece. It’s also written like a 5th grader, with such short sentences and paragraphs.

The Bulldogs and Storm created Premiership-winning calie teams during their cap scandal years. It makes sense that they would do well shortly after, as they didn’t have to lose many players.
Ours was a different situation, as we were spend outside the cap to keep plodders like Lee Hopkins at the club. Arthur had a shitty base to start from, unlike those clubs.

As for our attack, I blame our players more than the coach. Moses and Norman have been f**king disgraceful on the field this year. Poor last tackle options and terrible kicks out on the full would not be a per of BA’s game plan I’m sure. It has to come down to the decisions made on the field at times, not just the ones made off it.
It doesn’t help that we don’t have someone with size attracking defenders in the middle, or even on the edges. Paulo and Lane will hopefully help with this.

Like I said, I don’t think that Arthur is completely blameless. He brought this squad together and hasn’t been able to get the most out of them that he probably should have. But that doesn’t mean I want him punted. Give him next year, with an offseason to recruit and some proper, decent help around him and see if he can improve things. If not, then I would say that we shouldn’t renew his contract.

I think he deserves that at least.

I don’t recall Lee Hopkins playing for the club in 2016. Regardless of the “poor base” Arthur had to work with the roster was good enough to make the finals and certainly not lacking to the point where we were expected to get the spoon. There is obviously something very wrong.
To me the poor attack seems to be a coaching issue. Why do we look so lost when attacking the opposition try line? Why can’t we do simple things like create overlaps in the red zone? Everyone knows Norman and Moses can be individually great attacking players so why is the attack so disjointed and impotent? It’s been this way every year since 2015. Why has the coaching staff not been able to fix this issue over 4 seasons?
I also think it’s a bit misleading to say Arthur hasn’t had his chances. We needed to win 1 out of our last 3 games in 2014 to make the finals and failed. In 2015 we were not able to make the finals. 2016 and 2017 should be considered pass marks but I think this year is inexcusable.

Spot on, our attack has been poor in all his time here. And in that time he’s had some great attacking players. And still we have struggled to score points.

But we have the roster and coaching staff to fix it apparently according to the coach. Well you have had 5 seasons to fix things.

You do recall that the team, infact the club, was pulled apart in 2016? ... so 5 years, nah ... we were getting strong, then had to start again

Having said that, our demise this year is abysmal and no excuse for such a dramatic fall ... shit obviously needs fixing

14. Evans
15. Kaufusi

Might not be perfect, but is based on getting rid of Norman and Moses.
Looks a bottom 14 team to me.

So who have we recruited for next season?

Bulldogs seem to be Recruiting well!

Paulo / Lane / Ferguson/Fiji dude, who have the dogs recruited that are better then those 4?

Cogger? A fringe half
Meaney ? A fringe rookie back, our Fiji winger is potentially better and Ferguson is definitely better!
Crichton - Ferguson is better
Corey Harawira-Naera - Marata is better then him
Sauaso Sue - Lane / Paulo are better
Chris smith? Who the f**k is he?

A lot of fringe players yet we have got 3 top 17 players and 1 fringe.

Eels sink to record low

THE Parramatta Eels have wrapped up another miserable season by “winning” their 14th wooden spoon in 72 seasons.

That’s close enough to once in every five years that they have been the worst team in the premiership.

This is a “record” no club would be proud of in a competition in which it is all about building for sustained success.

You can’t win premierships or be as good as Melbourne Storm every year but you can at least be competitive.

What the Eels have dished up this year has been totally unacceptable.

Especially a club that is backed by a thriving leagues club and has a massive junior league that their rivals would kill for.

A club many of us tipped to make the top eight and possibly the top four at the start of the season.

I looked back at our pre-season tips. I had them running sixth, Bulldog Ritchie third, Kenty fifth, Dave Riccio fifth, Paul Crawley fifth, Mick Carayannis fifth, Matt Logue fifth and poor old Nick Walshaw had them winning the premiership.

The Eels board is now finalising a strategic plan for the future.

There will be a sharp focus on the Eels’ junior rugby league nursery, which is second only in size to the Penrith Panthers.

It’s okay to be moving into the magnificent new Western Sydney stadium next year but fans want results. This is a business where winning is everything.

Fans will not buy seats and memberships if the team is performing as poorly next season, no matter how good the home ground is.

What we have seen in the past two weeks (conceding 88 points against the Cowboys and the Roosters) has been dreadful.

The halves, Corey Norman and Mitchell Moses, are soaking up more than $1.6 million of the salary cap yet playing like park footballers.

Moses’ kicking game against the Roosters would be unacceptable in under-14s.

Fifth-tackle kicks went backwards or into touch on the full.

Either Norman or Moses has to go.

There are other players in the team who just aren’t having a go.

As coach Brad Arthur said after the game: “I’m glad it’s over. We can’t be too quick to dismiss it and turn a blind eye to it. The feeling we all have at the moment is more than enough motivation and drive to ensure it doesn’t happen again.”

Arthur’s job security will be the subject of much debate in coming weeks.

Everyone is accountable but he deserves to stay because he has held the club together in trying times for three years with the salary cap scandal and boardroom unrest.

The board will make a long overdue major investment into a football club restructure. It will ensure the coach has no more excuses.

Chief executive Bernie Gurr arrived with a great reputation but has done little in two years.

He, too, needs to lift his game.

This football club has to start again and build for sustainable success.

Wooden spoons should be for the clubs without money and juniors.

Agree.
And you keep saying things like that when someone posts a proposed team, but despite being asked, you never suggest your team - I will ask you again (for the umpteenth time), who would you be signing?
I would have gone hard for Boyd, Junior's partner at Raiders for a start. Regardless, based on BAs comments, we'll not win anything next year as he has learnt NOTHING from this shit year!

Just Boyd or anyone else?
If we got him would you have also signed Paulo?

Does Boyd turn the team I listed into a top 8 team on his own?

Who? Crighton and CHN. Both ideal 18-26 squad memebers at this stage.
We have Ferguson who is best back or top 5 i should say in game along with Jnr.
Lanes forms been exciting. Do people realise it is his first full season without injuires?

If we sign anyone else it should be young and promising or needs a chance. Unless something very good comes available and we can release Mannah or Evans. And means t rex or Kafusi are demoted.
