Rumours and Stuff

I think had we won those 8 games you mentioned it would have glossed over the poor culture and lack of accountability I believe is endemic throughout our club, just as it did last year.

Couple of questions...

1. Do you think culture plays little or no part in the success of sporting organisations (obviously not being the only factor)?

2. Do you think our culture is a positive one at present?

If we won those 8 games we would have 30 wins in 2 years.

Do you think it would have been our culture which would have brought back to back top 4 finishes??

You didn’t answer either of the two questions. You just asked another question based on a ‘what if?’

Do you think culture plays a part in being successful?

And do you think the eels at present have a positive culture?

I think you have no idea what a good culture is or what it means. You seem to look at our poor results and a few off field shenanigans and join the dots.

Do we actually have a reoccurring problem or are they spasmodic occurrences that are dealt with by the leadership group ? I’ll answer that - you don’t know. Players going off the rails will happen in every team.

Our lack of success has a bit to do with culture, a bit do do with the makeup of the squad, a bit to do with tactics, a bit to do with fitness and recovery, a bit do do with availability of key players (injuries) a bit to do with luck and a bit to do with player confidence and resilience.

So for you to just toss around buzzwords like culture and accountability as a person who actually has no idea of what happened at the Sales Yards makes me think you are just throwing darts. Does Nth Qld have a bad culture? They must bc they were shit all year.

I think a good culture within a sporting organisation is a playing roster that appreciates the opportunity they have been given and respect their club, their fellow players and their coaching staff.

I think a good culture means that no
one individual is bigger than the club and egos are left at the door. There is no need to be “the man” because the team’s success is their success.

I think a good culture demands success consistently and individuals are held to account if performances are subpar.

I think a good culture means that adequate support (financial and Human Resources) is given to the club so that it is given every opportunity for success.

I think a good culture requires the playing group to trust that the coaching staff can improve them as individual players and prepare them collectively to be a successful team.

Similarly, I think a good culture requires the coaching staff to trust that the players they have recruited and selected to be professional and perform consistently to their ability.

With this in mind, I ask you again...

1. Do you think that culture has little to no effect on a sporting organisation’s success, and

2. Do you think the eels have a positive culture?

I already answered that. ^^^^

I don’t know and anyone here who thinks they can answer that question is really just guessing.

Up until round two this year I thought we had a good culture. A few weeks after that the Cowboys might've been wondering about their own culture too.

But maybe both clubs were just unlucky this year. It happened to the Roosters in 2016 as well. They won six games that year after winning 18 the year before. If it can happen to clubs like those it can happen to us. 2018 could just be a dip in the road.
