Gutho's 2018 season.

It was only really worth the offer we made, and based on that he likely wasn't going to get a hell of a lot of interest from other clubs at anything near 700k.

For mine it's all just a media blow up, and Ayoub using it to pressure the club.

All we know as fact is that Gutho turned down the initial offer stating he was willing to prove he is worth more, and that so far this season he has, based on that, i reckon it makes perfect sense that negotiations are being ramped up now. Ayoub will want to price him on his start to the season alone, which taken in isolation puts him well into the 700k plus mark.

I also disagree with those saying he won't play origin or test footy, I reckon he's got origin written all over his performances this year so far. If he keeps to his current standard, he'll be named in the extended squad for this series.

He’ll only ever be a fill in, IMO. Teddy and turbo will always be in front of him. Don’t think he has much going for him to play other positions at an elite level.

Crawley and big man voice have him starting fullback over Tedesco. Captaining too

It's not just Ayoub. Managers are the player's agent. If the player doesn't want them to play hard ball, and doesn't want them to leak stuff strategically.......they don't have to use that agent, or they can tell the agent 'accept this deal'. Players are responsible for the people they employ to represent them, but fans (in general, not you) would rather think of their favourites as good blokes in whose mouths butter wouldn't melt.

Let's not forget that players cannot change agents during the course of a contract so unless there was a reason to change agents at the end of a contract, why would they? This is the first time Gutho has really been in a position of relative strength in negotiations since he debuted so it may also be the first time he has seen Ayoub work in this manner - doesn't mean he likes it, he may just be stuck with it.

I agree.

I was just thinking the other day that Shaun Lane, and Clinton Gutherson, could count themselves extremely unlucky if they didn't play Origin in 2019.

I think Gutho already has the 14 jersey, there is no way peachy would be retained with both his and the titans form. Clints to lose imo....

I can’t see Gutho playing Origin any time soon unless there is an injury toll.
He won’t be getting picked at fullback over Teddy or Trbojevic, and I’m not sure if the selectors would put him in at centre or wing considering he’s rarely played there.
He may get picked as 18th man due to his versatility though, but he will probably always be the bridesmaid never the bride.

Are you telling me that if an agent acts against the orders of the principal (i.e. breaches his contract) the player is stuck with him for the duration? But in this case we are talking about a new contract, so presumably Gutho was free to use whoever he likes for the purpose of that deal (otherwise you could never change agents until your existing deal expired).

Anyway, I'm not suggesting that Gutho has done anything wrong. I just think that people are very quick put everything on the agent and not consider the fact that players might be quite happy for their agents play slime-ball.

It depends on the makeup of the squad, Turbo can play wing and or centre as well as fullback for example, so whilst as things now stand I agree he'll be picked before Gutho, it doesn't mean he'll be picked at Gutho's expense. Teddy more so, the fullback position is his to lose, and again I agree he won't be displaced by the King anytime soon.

His most likely spot is 14, as a super sub for the backline, and a cameo at hooker. The HIA rule is seeing a lot of NRL coaches more willing to carry a replacement back in their lineup, because there's a hell of a lot more chance you're gonna need one at some point in the game, and it saves a reshuffle that sees a bunch of players playing out of position, or f**king with your forward rotation.

Yeah look, we all know ( I think ) that Gutho could put his foot down, but I would also think that he'd be happy enough to accept that his manager is the one that knows how to deal with this shit ( If he isn't why have a manager at all ) so he'd defer to Ayoubs advice. In the end, it's hardly surprising that any player would want to be paid as much as they can get, and for as long as they can get it.

All I know is that players are stick with agents for the period of the contract the agent gets them. Obviously breach of contract could get them out of it but that would require a court case.

who are NSW centre options? ..... Roberts seems all over the place - injured, not injured, dumb, etc etc .... Gutho would not let anyone down if picked at centre, but I have doubts he would get picked there when not playing there .... yeah he could maybe be picked at 14 - he could spell a hooker if necessary .... though I still think they would more like a bigger bodied utility

yeah I can't imagine any player would want to push for court action to break a contract mid term (though there have been a couple)

The other thing with Ayoub & Gutho ..... what exactly are they doing that is "slimey"?

They turned down the 500k and backed Gutho to prove he is worth more .... and that is EXACTLY what has happened.

While I'm sure ayoub was doing alot of background talking, they have allowed Parra every chance to pay more .... we just haven't gone to their expectations .... end up at 4 yrs - 700k it seems - I think we could have got him there, but we baulked

They have every right to stand their ground .... and if Gutho continues to be our best player, they have every right to up the asking price ..... there is talk of giving Moses more - why shouldn't Gutho expect similar to Moses? Gutho is our f**king captain and a clear leader

I have no problem what-so-ever with our club standing firm also, but I don't know if the player+agent are being particularly slimey here either, just cos we aren't getting what we want
