Rumours and Stuff

That would be strange. Once the player fails to take up the option, that contract is dead (well, it's dead at end of 2022). He could just go and play in Kempsey if he chose or open a laundrette. The Eels obligations to him for 2023 onwardrs ceased once he chose to terminate the existing contract, and I would imagine that the Panthers obligations to the Eels disappear at the same time. I can't see how it work any other way (unless somebody in the game is really stupid).

Maybe officially he didn't pass on his option. Maybe he said he was going to explore his options but the official date to pass on it hadn't actually been reached. Then he did a little exploration on the open market and the Eels didn't give up on him and the rest as they say in the classics is Parra's gain.

Could this scenario be real?

Well, I guess it is possible that someone could have inserted a clause along the lines 'if the Eels re-sign RCG within 30 days of him letting the option lapse......' but I doubt it (based on the available descriptions of the contract.....and we are just relying on what we can get from the media). It's not even clear to me whether Panthers were ever on the hook for his 2023 salary anyway.

Maybe it hadn't.

I think that’s a strong possibility

yeah crossed my mind too ..... Pou already pointed out that most player options seem to expire mid season in the past when they are talked about (doesn't mean this is the same of course) - so it may never have even got near expiring and the manager was just being proactive (aka manipulatie, its his job) and making it get discussed early.

But maybe it never expired and is still in force - and it was all about getting a later top up and an extension????

I read that The Pennys will extend Salmons contract with a view to him replacing Burton/Momorovski in the centres next year. Will be interesting viewing.
I saw that he signed a 1 year deal for 2022 only. I’ve only ever seen him play 5/8 but considering that they lost May, Burton and Momoetc there are opportunities. A 1 year deal suggests they the coaching staff are not sold on him.

That’s not how options work. Baz nailed it that he allowed the call option to lapse.

If a player has an option for 2023, he can exercise that option and he gets that contract for that year the predetermined consideration. Reg has resigned until 2025 which means that the Eels reached a new deal

Well he has a great highlights package. Very strange that we picked up a Waverley College lad over Roosters / Waratahs.

Yeah he seems a real decent talent. Very strange that he would leave the bosom of the Rooster and head west to the murky waters of the Eel. What has he an attitude problem and the Chickens know it and basically cut him loose?

The question though is, did he officially allow it to lapse? I'm not saying he didn't, but where is the proof? How would we know?

And everyone was also convinced he was leaving. Thats the point. Nobody knows but I believe Hoops. 🙄.

Well I'm not saying that what Hoops is reporting is 100% true, but surely it isn't that hard to pick up the phone for these guys and ask the players manager if the Panthers are still kicking in or has that part of the deal expired now and is null and void and that the Eels would be picking up full freight from year 20xx, right?

I don't see why a manager would need to lie or be duplicitous about that part of a contract.

I reckon if a player manager answered that question from a media person, there would be some breach of a confidentiality clause.
Can I get your bosses phone number and ring and ask him about your employment conditions?

So we sign a promising youngster from a top club which you amongst others have suggested we should be doing, and suddenly it's too good to be true and he must have an attitude problem? Come on Ram. Credit where it is due rather than looking for ways to shit on the club.

With Marata likely gone, there’s a clear path to
First grade with us and therefore the potential for fringe first grade money. I love it when a merkin is folded in half.

Curtis scott?

“Parramatta are considering handing Curtis Scott a lifeline next season.
The Eels, South Sydney and North Queensland have discussed signing Scott but it is Parramatta who has emerged a shock contender in recent days.

The Tigers also considered handing the premiership winner another crack at the NRL.

Scott, 24, has not played since May after being stood down by the Raiders. He was sacked by Canberra in August after a nightclub incident.

Scott was also fined $15,000 by the NRL after being charged with assault. Scott case will be mentioned in court on Monday.

His contract will need to be approved by the NRL.

Scott has been working at his brother’s landscaping business as he waited for an opportunity to resurrect his career.

He told the Sunday Telegraph he had attended Alcoholics Anonymous and undergone psychiatric treatment in a desperate bid to get back into the top grade.

“I’ve been to the lowest of the lows,” Scott said in August. “You can’t get any lower. It was as dark as it gets.

“I’d had enough of feeling shit,” he said. “I probably haven’t been happy for five years.”

Scott could compete with youngster Will Penisini and Waqa Blake for a starting centre spot if he joins the Eels.

He burst onto the scene winning a premiership in his first full season of first grade with the Storm in 2017 and was touted as a NSW player in waiting.

Veteran hooker Mitch Rein is Parramatta’s only addition to their squad after the off-season departures of Blake Ferguson, Will Smith, Michael Oldfield and Joey Lussick.”
This is his last chance, we could end up with a top-class centre for a minimal price. If he doesn't pull his head in he knows where the door is. It also provides us cover with Sivo being injured and it also gives a chance to experiment with Waqa on the wing. Not a fan of his but if we can turn Cartwright around we're a decent shot at turning him around.

I agree if he's still a dick, it's not alot of money

Or we get a good centre on the cheap to pay others more.
