I’m not so sure we’ve done anything wrong.

as I understand it, Nrown’s manager asked if brown is in The eels plans beyond next year as they want to secure a deal.

the response from the eels was, if you find a suitable club, and they’re happy to have you in 2024, enabling brown to secure his future, they won’t stop him leaving early if it enables him to do so.

if he can’t find a club then the eels will be happy to leave him on their books till his deal expires.

I didn't say they did anything wrong; just a little disappointed that it was handled this way.

I think some of the reporting suggested Nrown’s management asked if they could explore options after we told them we wouldn’t extend past 2023…..and we just said yes. So not so much from our side but there side….

It just seems weird to me to re-sign the player, and then tell him, "If you find a long deal elsewhere, you can leave now."

And to also drop him from First Grade seems strange.

I mean, to tell a bloke with a year, and a bit, left to run on his deal, that if he finds a new deal elsewhere, he can leave...that's rough.

He asked. I feel the clubs being fair. They said you are not part of plans moving forward. And if found a deal where it's long term and need out of 2023 we are happy to accommodate.
I don't see an issue. Upfront.

BA was quoted as saying that he told Brown that he's free to look elsewhere...
BA also said that his dropping this week was unrelated to his contract negotiations. I'm wondering if we've offered Matterson a contract with a much higher value in 2024 than 2023 (cough cough back ended) based on the fact that Brown won't be with us. In a way we don't need them both now.

Tbh I think the club is being fair. They can’t push brown out. And he wants a contract beyond 2023. If he stays with the eels and finds a deal for 2024, I guarantee you it won’t be a big contract. This way he may find a deal with a club where he can earn a little more. And if we clear him off our books with minimal payout to play elsewhere, it’s a win win.

so why are you disappointed if they didn't do anything wrong?

I've always been a Nrown fan .... I think he has been great for us ..... plus he won me $300 on first try scorer once, so he gets legend status for ever more

The thing is, as Soren said, we have no idea how any of it went down .... most of these "getting an extension" things are often driven by the player manager trying to nail down a future. Its often a case of the club being couteous to allow a player to leave erly if thats in the player's best interests - obviously there can be advantages for the club too

we re-signed him over a year ago .... things change .... and players want to secure their future (its a job) ..... we are letting the contract run it's course, but if it's in Nrown's best interests to leave early for an extension elsewhere, then so be it

I do agree, the dropping is odd .... he isn't at his peak, but he is not our worst middle forward

This. The dropping at the same time though suggests there may be a little more to the story but we'll probably never know so meh.

Not exactly a journo who is always correct….

Badel is very very close to Bennett though, and is often pretty accurate with stuff around him.

If Matterson does leave, and the purported contracts are correct, I think there is significantly more about the numbers of players leaving next season than just money.

I know its a little thing that wouldn't make one bit of difference when signing players.

But maybe the Dolphins should actually just call themselves the Redcliffe Dolphins instead of just hiding behind simply being called the Dolphins they might get a bit more of a respect across the game.
