I've never been a big Makatoa fan, but maybe we would be better off with:

8. RCG/Paulo
9. Mahoney
10. Makatoa

16. Paulo/RCG

Makatoa is a workhorse; having him come off the bench does us no favours. He is not an impact player.

This would also give us the luxury of having some impact coming off the bench.

Once RCG, and Paulo, go off, we struggle to keep up the momentum they created.

Having them both start means we can start games strongly, but all our opposition really needs to do, is to weather the storm, wait for them to go for a breather, and pounce.

I believe we need to change our rotations up.

Our rotations are so predictable, under the unchanging BA "game plan in a can" method.

Agree it's worth fiddling with the workhorse/impact roles... but we should have been doing that all year (rather than potentially our final game), so the opposition would always be in two minds up until game day of how we'd approach that week.

This is what I don't understand. Whether fans believe it or not, I reckon we are putting the 17 out there that the coach and his staff believe are our strongest 17 and best chance of winning every game.

I know that doesn't play into the narrative that many fans want or enjoy and that there will always be opinions that player X should be playing instead of player Y, but that's what fans do, we surmise and propose what we would do without the same level of knowledge that the coach and his staff have.

There is honestly no way BA is not picking the team he thinks gives us the best chance of winning.
In last years final against Penrith Nathan Brown and Bryce Cartwright were in the top 17. Have Makatoa and Jake Arthur been so good that they’ve forced the coach to drop the former two out of the team?

I keep forgetting Makatoa and Brown are the same age... it's not like Maka is an up and comer rising through the ranks, to whom Brown needed to make way.

And whichever one is selected, it's also about how the coach uses them. Only 7-10 mins is a waste of one of your three bench forward spots (if we assume a bench has to carry spine/backline utility cover - which should be considered opponent by opponent).

I heard similar from a pretty bloody good source from a chance meeting.
Very poor if true. I’ve heard Brad Arthur say that he asked the players for their opinions on whether Jake should be in the team. If he’s only willing to accept yes as an answer then it would be rather disingenuous of him to act as if their opinions actually mattered in the end.

My thinking is he asked a few players he is closely aligned to who were going to give JA the thumbs up regardless of their actual opinion.

Same goes for his assistants.

I don't think they both come off together. I.E rcg and jnr.

1 plays close to 30 to 35 mins, the other 20min,then the other comes back on.

Usually reg plays for 30, jnr off after 20 and comes back for a 2nd stint just b4 half time

So we lose momentum when only 1 is off the field. Hence your swap means the 2 bookends aren't on at the same time.

We really needed another bopper and if nrown wasn't up to it according to ba, we should've got lodge.

Man, an extra 50k for a better chance at the title.

I thought lodge was good for the roosters

Well every time the 7 min kid is on the field he seems to be pushed wider so Jakey can do his thing. What a glorious sight it was Friday night, proving what a disgrace it is that he’s anywhere near first grade and the only back up half in the squad. If the people running the club aren’t wanting answers they have no business running the club.
What are you on about? Arthur was stuck on the right hand side, it’s where he got his LBA.

It's probably an easier decision to let them walk when you've got a relative production line of players ready to take their place. We don't have that luxury I'm afraid so we might have to go the extra mile to keep the ones we need to...
How many of our current team were genuine first graders when we signed them? I would say Blake, Moses, Paulo (who debuted at our club), RCG and Matterson. It's not a lot of merkins. We have proven we can develop players, whether they come through our pathways or make their debuts elsewhere.

I don't think it's that clear cut. It is a potential conflict of interest. What are the odds that BA isn't being entirely objective but more emotional? We don't know but more likely in this case than if his child wasn't involved. What are the odds that the staff he hired are giving him objective advice? Again, same situation. And how often do we see a specialist half on the bench? Not very often, in fact highly unusual. And how often is opinion not only amongst fans but also ex-players and other media people almost universally against a selection? Not that often. Against this we've got the oft-used claim that the coach and his staff know better than us and they see more too at training. But then what they're seeing at training would have to be night and day to what we see in games to even come close to justifying this.
Merkins don't understand the Makatoa selection either and I'm sure he's not related to the coach.

I actually spoke to someone employed by the club yesterday, and he had a very low opinion of ja and can’t believe he’s in grade.
Was it one of these guys?

Mahoney looks for. Ja rather than brown. I think that's how they train when pretending moses is out.

I feel ba thinks it's plug and play.

Ja comes on and Plays the moses role so dyl can play adhoc
They play left/right and we use the two sides very differently, as do most teams.
