He’s a very experienced playmaker and knows better than you or any journalist which decisions to make on the field. Don’t get sucked into the Ricky Stuart rugby league media melodrama. You have been fooled by a couple of talking heads trying to create drama. It was crap. He was taking way too many dummy half runs and wrong options and stifling their attack.
We’ve been through this. You claimed he was dropped to the bench (disproven) and then that he continued starting but played limited minutes (also disproved). Your memory of his 2021 season is terribly flawed, because you were gutted we lost Mahoney and desperate to blame his replacement for it. But as it turns out, we’ve been fine without Mahoney, and signing Hodgson hasn’t hurt us at all. He has held his own and even contributed to the development of the rookie Brendan Hands.
And here you still think we need a dummy half for his highlights. The way we attack we need a steady hand with the discipline to stick to our game plan of controlling the ball and building fatigue pressure on the opposition. We don’t need Api Koroisau’s running game eating up our cap space and taking running opportunities away from our dangerous halves.Sure there was the odd good highlight
I’m sure everyone knew it, which is why he’s reportedly on half the money he was on at Canberra., but overall he was a player way down on what he was before and the Raiders obviously knew that so let him go without any fuss.
Like every club they need to prioritise where they spend their money. Hooker is only as important as you want it to be. For example, only one of the top four clubs has a star dummy half.I mean none of the DH's they have now can hold a candle to the player he once was and none of them are hardly anywhere need the top echelon of DH's in the NRL.
He was uninjured when we signed him. He finished 2021 strong, playing 20 games and starting in every one of their last 13 games. He ran and tackled well and set up 10 tries. It was a successful comeback from his 2020 injury. He was a spent force and and a severely injured one at that and our football department and you expected him to come back playing like a quality NRL DH?
Hands is inexperienced and untested over 80 minutes against the strong teams. There’s a reason Arthur’s tested Hopgood at dummy half on Saturday. And Hands has made more errors per game than Hodgson this year. You know someone that doesn't miss to many tackles, has decent speed and lateral movement. Can go the full eighty without being to much of a liability. Remember we weren't sure if we had anyone else ready and at NRL standard at the time. Not throw at least 5 forward passes a game and on many occasions terrible balls to team mates that make him look like a front rower bending for the ball and just throwing it and hoping for the best?
For a team with plenty of dumb in its athletic spine, I’d say Hodgson’s experience has been valuable this year. We’ve been hearing it out of the group since the preseason.I don't know what you think you saw, but pure critical thinking would have told you that this was never going to work out well and that we were basically giving and old warhorse his final retirement package.
That’s exactly why we refuse to overpay for players. It’s a team game, and the loss of one player shouldn’t derail a strong team. Meanwhile after some unlucky early losses you’ve been predicting that we’d challenge for the spoon due to losing the likes of Mahoney and Papali’i. But instead they’re the ones challenging for the spoon while we are again on track to make the finals, despite our club management supposedly being even stupider than you are.All I and some other on here know is that we are just so grateful that it hasn't so far damaged our season enough to the point that we can't make the eight.
