Lol, they sure do get paid.

Load management is a real thing also. Problem is even when the season isn't on the line they are still playing huge minutes.
Paulo has played fewer than 50 minutes six times this season: https://www.parraeels.com.au/teams/nrl-premiership/parramatta-eels/junior-paulo/

He has also played 60+ minutes four times. But we also have an option to play him in three stints (with the middle one separated by half time) so he's not on for too long without a rest.

BA plays him along minutes every week and has guys on the bench lucky to play 10 mins. Hard to understand
What is the issue with him playing big minutes?

He has been a big minute prop his whole career. Would you prefer he plays 45 minutes and Makatoa gets more minutes?

Nobody cries that our halves play the whole game. Or our edge forwards. Or even our 13 (when we have an 80 minute lock).

In Paulo and RCG we happen to gave 2 guys who are not only outstanding props, but can go pretty well 80 minutes if required. Sure, give them a spell for 15-20 to allow them to go harder in the 60-65 they are on the park, but let's not call for them to be substituted so that Ogden gets a go...
Paulo's defensive lapses are there 1m in, and aren't solved by having him play less minutes.

By all means have a whinge, everyone is welcome to whinge, but please be reasonable about what you whinge about!!

I don't think the big fella even needs a rest? What do you think?

For years and years Gould has marvelled at Barlow's ability to play long minutes (lungs of a walrus)

And in turn what about the bench forward who plays 10? Whens he going to get match fit?

Umm...

(A) what does that forward need match fitness for?
(B) would you prefer we lose games so Makatoa gets fit?
(C) dudes have training during the week (and preseason) which includes fitness training and, and can handle 20 minute stints (all you need if you don't have a big minutes prop)
(D) My observation is that some of the guys who don't play much get a full 2nds game every now and then to maintain fitness
(E) if/ when we blow teams out, have you noticed that the bench guys get more time for 'match fitness'?

I think every middle defender gets less effective with fatigue. The question is how much less effective is too much. Obviously 80 minutes is too much for plenty of middles or they would all play 80 minutes. I guess it depends on how effective the bench merkins are. Is Paulo's 60th minute better than Greig's 1st minute? I'd say surely not. But what about his 40th minute? This is the calculation Arthur's needs to make, and why Paulo's minutes are different (sometimes very different) every week.

Here's Arthur's calculating a new amount of minutes for Paulo to play that week:

1: You cant compare 110 kg guys to backs..
2: Paulo has shown after 20 minutes he gets lazy in defense cowboys game 3 tries in the first half directly through him. It just boneheaded to keep him on after 20 minutes.

Do we just go ok because your on stupid amounts of money our attack and defense should suffer because we expect big minutes from Paulo and Reg?

Panfers forwards last game Fish 52 minutes - Smith 41

Jason Taumalolo went from 80 minutes to 50-60 a game.

For sure players effectiveness can change over time. But just because prop A plays X minutes does not mean prop B should play X minutes.

The starting props should probably play as many minutes as possible while remaining effective.
RCG can go 80, so perhaps 65 is a good number for Him?
Paulo is the same, and has been a big minute prop under different coaches.

I think his defensive issues are there from minute 1

Yeo 80 minutes

But also:
Luke 7 minutes
Salmon 19 minutes

Doesn't Cleary know you need to give your bench players more minutes ffs?!?!? Isaah Yeo will get burnt out!!!

That's how many Paulo usually plays. What's the problem exactly?
