Is Johnson a better goal kicker than Moses?

Johnson's career stats are 326/436 74.77%, worst year being 2015 when he dropped down to 68.57% and his best year being 2017 at 78.95%

Moses' career stats are 154/207 or 74.4%, worst year being 2016 when he kicked at 62.32% and his best year being 2017 where he kicked about 83% across Parra amd the tigers. Didn't count his first 2 years as he only attempted 9 goals, 2 out of 4 in his first year 5/5 in his second year

IMO a spine of:

1. Hayne
6. Norman
7. Johnson
9. Mahoney

Has much better prospects of playing finals footy than what we currently have. Mahoney is our best option at hooker as far as I’m concerned. I would prefer a better option on the bench like Seggy, but worst case Mahoney plays 80 and We have another big bopper or Salmon off the bench. If Mahoney’s not up to 80 mins of NRL (which I think he is), then maybe Pritchard gets a start on the bench.

The other immense benefit of SJ possibly coming onboard is that he is at his best when he is effectively playing “parra ball”. We are also at our best (albeit inconsistently) when we are playing “parra ball”.

Our structure should be the pigs to try and win the ruck/get into an attacking position and then the halves backs to throw it around until an opportunity presents itself. This is exactly how SJ works.

Formal attacking structures simply don’t work with our roster and culture, so we need to develop a roster that suits our style of play.

No style has historically been successful for us, unless you count sporadic seasons of above-average wins amongst general season-on-season mediocrity. But when we have had fleeting 'success' it has been on the back of a play style featuring high randomness. This is because randomness favours the underdog, and we almost always have a weaker squad than average.

Bulk of other teams squad stay the same so I dont buy the bullshit we recruited wrong style of players. Players and coaches need to be able to adjust and that is what every other side does. So I call bullshit.

The debate on big forwards also is bullshit. The game always needs big forwards. And it always will have atleast 1 or 2 spots in a team for the big guy. Even if he is only capable of 15min stint. If interchanged reduced then they become more damaging as other forwards will be more lethargic.

By the time Smith was finished at Parramatta every other club was doing the same thing as us, recruitment-wise (i.e. poaching gun juniors and 'developing' them to beat the salary cap). In that environment it just came down to who could spend the most on players.

Imo, honestly, that is a top 6 side, and possibly even top 4.

Johnson is inconsistent, but still better (and more consistent) than Moses, and that pack is a great balance between size, mobility, and line-running.

I've not had an issue with our booking options - Pritchard has already had some Man Of The Match performances, and Mahoney will only improve.

If that is our side for 2019, I'm excited!

For me, Jonson at his worst is like a 5 out of 10 - so even though Shaun has his inconsistencies, he is a way better player than Moses.

Watching the NZ vs England test earlier today and focused on Johnson in attack. When he gets the ball close to the line, especially 2 passes wide it seems like something is going to happen and is a real threat. His 5th tackle options, especially when the defence holds off him is unlike any other in the competition.

Saying this though he's very similar to Moses in playing style, he's just a better player overall but would also be costing 200-300k more. I don't think the trade would be overly beneficial for us other than the fact that we'd be able to get rid of moses. We'd still be facing the same problem that we did this year with both halves wanting to have full control of the team, neither would want to take a backseat.

I still believe the best option for next year would be going with Norman and Brown as the halves.
