If we lost Rheed it would be embarrasing to our club. The first hooker we've had come thru with any quality since PJ Marsh. And we lost him also. How many spine players have we produced in the last 20yrs? Not many. To think we will lose one of them is embarrasing to management.
I don't think its embarassing .... but it'd be pretty f**king diasappointing

Gutho could quite easily tell his grubby agent to "shut the f**k up and stop talking to the media, you are making me look like a dickhead".

The fact that Gutho has let his agent play out it like this 2 contracts in a row shows that Gutho is in fact as big a dickhead as Ayoub.

How do you know he hasn't?

And difference would it make?

All this has proven is that Gutherson wants big money, and he is happy to let his agent get that deal however he can.

For the record, I don't think he really is worth more than $800,000 - but all this talk about what a dickhead he is for trying to get top dollar is a bit silly.

People bag Gus .... but the reality is he still has a lot of swing in the NRL and can get third party cash.

I remember in 2018 they released the club totals of "official" third party deals and Penrith were #4 on the list - the top 4 were miles ahead of the rest - and contained the usual suspects, Melbourne, Roosters, Souths .... and f**king Penrith ..... ffs, Penrith from sticksville with their pissy little supporter base were literally hundreds of thousands above other clubs .... why? Gus is a good talker?

NO.
The fans aren't letting the players do that any more - they have gilded the lily for decades pretending to be all innocent and that its just the agent doing their thing.
A player should be charged under those association laws just for being in the same room as Ayoub let alone appointing him as their agent. He has such a dubious history.
Ayoub isn't damaging his own reputation (which has been trash since the Brad Murray and Ryan Tandy days) he is damaging Gutherson's reputation.

I think you're reading way too much into things.

Having an agent declare, "My client is worth $X - pay up!" doesn't damage the player's reputation, because most people simply know that it is what agents do.

Gutherson believes he can get more, so he has instructed his manager to do that for him.

Football players are not saints who represent clubs out of the goodness of their hearts - they are short-term mercenaries, out to make as much money as possible throughout a ten (or fifteen, if you're lucky) year career.

All this has really shown is that Gutherson is a slave to the dollar - trying to squeeze every last dollar out of a deal doesn't make him a dickhead.

actually I am wrong - roosters weren't in the top 4 - it was brisbane, melbourne and souths with penrith ..... the roosters were middle of the pack - lol ..... I don't think it included golf winnings

I see what you're saying.

But what is his crime?

Trying to secure as much money as possible, in a short earning window?

Hiring a player agent to organise all his deals?

I must say - I find this rationale that "he's the captain - he should lead by example!" just a tad naive.

At the end of the day Gutherson's priority is to look after himself - and that should be every player's focus.

It doesn't take much for a club to show a loyal player the door...
I agree with everything you said - but that seems more to me that Gutherson's agent is being a typically greasy agent, and thus the frustration should be aimed towards him.

This rhetoric that Gutherson should lead by example, and take less than what he thinks he can get elsewhere, makes no sense to me...good luck to him getting big money.

Good luck to him. I hope he gets the money elsewhere and f**ks off. Then we can sign a real fullback with pace, have a real captain, and have no more ridiculous man buns. Queen Gutho would be a great fit for the Tigers.

NRL news: Bulldogs launch bid to snare Eels hooker Reed Mahoney
The Bulldogs have stepped up their pursuit of off-contract Eels star Reed Mahoney over dinner at a Chinese restaurant.

Dean Ritchie and
Phil Rothfield

Canterbury has launched a multimillion-dollar bid to sign Parramatta Eels hooker Reed Mahoney over a private dinner at a Chinese restaurant on Tuesday night.

The Daily Telegraph has obtained footage from the Dynasty restaurant inside Canterbury Leagues Club where the club’s heaviest hitters met with Mahoney, who comes off contract after next season.

Bulldogs head coach Trent Barrett was at the meeting along with general manager of football, Phil Gould, club chairman, John Khoury along with Mahoney and his manager, Sam Ayoub.

Before dinner, Mahoney was given a tour of the Bulldogs’ facilities at Belmore Sports Ground.

Mahoney told Canterbury officials he was impressed with the facilities and would make a decision within the next fortnight.

The hooker was upfront with the Bulldogs, telling them he wanted to speak with Parramatta before finalising his decision.

Mahoney, already linked to Brisbane, Gold Coast and the Dolphins, is free to officially explore his options for 2023 given he comes off contract after next season.

Michelle bishop said on SEN this morning at the 6:30 sports update.

Curtis scott has agreed to terms and will begin pre-season training in the next couple of weeks.

His court case is still pending though.

Boggles my mind why we went and signed the scumbag

He’s an utter germ and not that good a footballer, but we love our Moneyball!!!

We’ve made some smart cheap buys in recruitment the last few years I doubt this is one of them. But I was wrong once and maybe I’ll be wrong again.

Fake news. BA doesn’t hire anyone who could potentially show him up
Wow what a glittering resume he has, the highlight being the assistant coach of Newcastle’s reserve grade side. Get ready to be shown up Bea!!!!

That said I’m sure he’ll be an excellent fit for Flegg, at least the club are bringing in some new blood in the coaching ranks so it can only be a positive.
