They’ll get the opportunity to get as many TAs in reserve grade as Jake Arthur when they know how to tackle. Until then he is superior. There are heaps that are better but don't get to jump the line

Same as the Roosters did with Sam Walker....Chuck him in at the deep end and see how he goes..in 2024 I mean (just make sure he can get outta the bag)...The good players hafta start somewhere.Lol settle down, he's had 3 games in Sydney. 2 of which have been trials. Let's see how he goes for the rest of the season and if he makes it to 21's.

Jordan Rankin was great thenYep, good players have good stats. Must just be a coincidence.
Is that another stat?Jordan Rankin was great then
Where’s the talk coming from, about developing him into an edge forward?

Not worried about this year..Pretty confident Moses will re-sign anyway..
Sam Walker isn't a great example. He's in a team full of origin and international players, not exactly a trial by fire as you're portraying.
Here's another example. Tepai Moeroa. He was old enough because he was good enough. Put into first grade after 1.5 games of reserve grade. Bevan French? On the other end of the spectrum we have Marata Niukore and Will Penisini. There were calls to have them put into first grade earlier than they debuted.
I'd say it's because he has a frame that is suited to it.
He's shown that he has decent speed before (not blinding, but ok - his chip and chase try against the Tigers, his try in the Grand Final, he set up a few tries in NSW Cup by backing up the player who broke the line).
I think he will end up in the forwards.
In what grade?
Yes apparently we have the 2 best young halves coming thru - lets hope that actually works out unlike the other best halves we've had. But if Mitch does sign for 4 years or so we'll probably lose them and end up with a nuffy for a half.Big wraps on Josh Lynn....if you're good enough you're old enough...
The most reliable stat for playmakers is, as I've said before, LBAs. The fact that stats aren't always reliable doesn't change the fact that LBAs over a significant sample of games is a great indicator of quality. Here's top LBAs for NRL players last year: https://www.nrl.com/stats/players/?competition=111&season=2022&stat=31
Here's them for NSW Cup: https://www.nswrl.com.au/stats/players/?competition=113&season=2022&stat=31
As you can see, young Jake Arthur is nowhere near the top, as confirmed by your observations. He is much younger than most of those players, but Sandon Smith is the same age and he outperformed Arthur as a playmaker (and Sam Walker is the same age as both of them). But then Arthur was superior to Smith in defence and kicking (metres and forced drop outs). He also tackles better than Walker.

They are just two different types of halves. Obviously fans prefer the flashy type, but there's a place in the game for safe, high-effort players like Arthur. I reckon he's a chance of becoming a first grader.
Not sure why people continue to put shit on Jake, put shit on his father for putting him there!!! He is a good YOUNG kid who has composure and vision but a bit slow with his passes AND needs to play regular Flegg to learn his trade. May never be a top shelf half but needs to stay away from first grade until becomes better. As I've said previously, his best move would be to leave the club and go elsewhere to take the pressure off him, maybe Tigpies could replace Brooks with him - couldn't do any worse! Its a big year for young Jake I reckon.
. BA stating he wants Jake to play NSW regularly this season to continue to learn as a half.
. Captain Rankin continuing to play is a bit of a mystery. Is he there for guidance because if JR plays he runs the show. New 2nds coach so this may change.
. TCT stating Jake trained primarily as a half during pre season yet hes now being discussed as a relief option for Hodgo and also some talk to develop him into an edge forward.
I guess the hierarchy know what they are doing but its a bit confusing. As long as Jake isnt confused who cares I suppose. I wish the kid well and if merited, he get opportunites accordingly.
Its very f'n exciting.
Contingency planning is a thing. If you end up with $1m half for 4 years, then shirley that’s not a bad thing.Yes apparently we have the 2 best young halves coming thru - lets hope that actually works out unlike the other best halves we've had. But if Mitch does sign for 4 years or so we'll probably lose them and end up with a nuffy for a half.

I for one don't see him moving to the forwards and am stumped people suggest it. Forwards need to be big and strong powerful men.Tough and aggressive. Just cause Matterson did? Matto was a large unit and powerfull.
JA is tall and will fill out more but he is lanky and just isn't a forward in any way at all. It would be like suggesting Turbo should move to 2nd row. Similar body shape.
