Think SOO provided a blueprint for Moses and how a good to elite 7 can perform with a better than average backline. What chance we see improvement in that area in 2025, not reserve graders but actual NRL backs.
Guess that needs someone in recruitment to act like they understand what to do to improve the roster, not going to hold my breath on our crew doing much.
They should sign Lomax.

It isn't just the backline. Look at our slow big forwards. They are suited to the games 5+yrs ago. Now you want small, more agile fast ones.
Guys like Jnr,Lane,Grieg aren't suited to the quicker games nowdays

Maybe the R&R team and Head of Football have recognised that over the last couple of years and why they have signed Kelma, Doorey and Hopgood. Even Joffa is pretty agile and not big and bulky.
Still need some more and that's where future players like Guymer and Keir come into it. So, potentially in 2025 we see:

8. Joffa
9. Arthur
10. RCG
11. Kelma
12. Cartwright
13. Hopgood

14. Matto
15. Doorey
16. Keir
17. Guymer

Do you think that would be more suitable to the current style of games?

EDIT: and Moretti in there too somewhere.

Don't worry - we're in the process of re-jigging our big, powerful, but immobile forward pack into a smaller, faster but weaker pack. The transition should be complete just in time for the rule change which swings things back in favour of big immobile powerful plodders again.

It's the forwards doing the hard stuff and running lines which holds the opposition defence to create overlaps out wide.

The backs dont have to be super fancy. Centres and Wings are probably the lowest paid per minutes played. Most forwards don't play the 80 mins.

BA was right to stack the pack but he relied on polishing and hopefully picking a diamond out of the rough like iPaps. He spent alot of top 30 positions to crappy forwards and hence our shortage of backs. He might've wanted a classy back but MON couldn't get it done

Bryce took a few years... he got Kelma right but he didn't bring out the best out of Kelma and ironically, Barrett did. Kelma didn't look like an 80 min player under BA and made alot of defensive reads incorrectly.

Under Barrett, he plays 80 and is a good defender.

Dear Members,

I wanted to send you a message before we move into the next phase of our NRL season.

Our NRL on-field performance this season has been disappointing and well below expectations. We know it's not what you expect from us, and it's certainly not what we expect from ourselves. We understand your disappointment, and we share it.

I can assure you that the current coaches and playing group are committed to turning things around. They're putting in the hard yards at training, and their desire to win is undeniable.

Our football program has the building blocks in place to support success in the coming seasons. The pathways system is developing players that are not only successful at the junior level but most importantly coming through to our NRL squad – when Matt Arthur takes the field on Saturday, we will have three players come directly from our 2023 SG Ball premiership team through to NRL.

We also know that the addition of more coaching and high-performance resources within the pathways program over the last 18 months will ensure that our development club philosophy will be a major strength of our Club going forward.

We're currently in the midst of a comprehensive process to appoint a new Head Coach. This is a critical appointment, and we're taking the time to ensure we appoint the right person – someone who embodies our values, will establish the right culture and can lead our football program into a new era.

We're genuinely excited about the future of the Club. We have had exceptional candidates interested in the Head Coaching role, and we're confident our future coach will usher in a winning culture that also puts the Club, its members, its fans and the wider Eels community first.

The coming weeks will be crucial as we finalise the selection of our Head Coach. We'll keep you updated as we conclude that process.

Let me leave you in no doubt that winning a premiership is our number 1 goal as an organisation – everything we do as a Club is centred on that objective.

Your passion for the Eels is what drives us. Together, we will turn this around and take our Club forward.

Dear Members,

We have no clue what we are doing, so we are taking an extra long time to do it - despite the fact it is obviously hurting our recruitment chances, as players are being snapped up left, right, and centre, and nobody is keen to sign with us, until they know who the coach is.

Sincerely,

Some Bald Idiot

Small and average is just as bad as big and average.

Here's a tip even your mother would give you for free if she loved you.

The trick is good to great in any size is what wins games. Period! ;)

Sure but I was commenting on the way our recruitment may have shifted to smaller more agile forwards, not on their overall quality and whether or not they were average.

Is reading something in context something you often struggle with?
