you'd have to ask them...

everyone here knows it's a problem.

and this is not about whether you want Barnett or not or whether you feel he weas a good fit or not it's the fact that we simply can't land a blow in the player market.
I would say viewing it from the outside its because we're trying to be responsible with the spending and years offered but a club that finished 15th and 11th last 2 years needs to splash the cash to land a big fish.
We either have to back our coaching and development and buy strategically or abandon that and throw some money around. I'm happy for us to go the first way but time will tell if we have the right people in charge intelligent enough to make astute buys. Last year was a good start but you can't rely of Foxx's and Dylan Walkers falling in your lap due to their own issues every year either.
We need to move up the ladder and show why we're worth coming to on similar offers to other clubs or we won't get players.

Just playing Devils advocate here for a minute, but possibly Brisbane was the only team Warriors approved him to go because it was Brisbane that had the most attractive player to give back. There’s more to this story than just the straight out money offer to Barnett.
I thought the only truth was in news ltd articles and these forums?

Agreed. We suck in the player market. I can't remember the last big name player we signed. Probably it goes back to early Arthur days of Moses, Junior, etc.

Weird thing is its seemed last year during the season that we have the money.

well technically it was Lomax, and you know what happened there...

and Foxx pretty much fell on our lap.

we simply don't have the ability and personel art the club to sell a dream and vision to other players...we're just incapable.

Moses wasn’t a big name player. He was disgruntled at the Tigers. Paulo was returning home from the Raiders. Most of our “big name” players we signed are let go by their clubs early and are looking for a new home. The last big name player we signed that I can think of was Tahu all the way back in 2005 (or maybe Sandow if you think he was a big name player at the time).

No rumours were we offer 1 mil but if were willing to offer a potential 33 year old a 900k contract for 3 years then surely wed offer a forward whos just as good and much younger a couple 100k more which it sounded like we werent. Like would u rather pay 300k more for keon?
Koloamatangi isn’t worth 33% more than Barnett. His age doesn’t make him better, it makes him worth a longer offer, which is what he got.

Aside from the dollars and years, Parramatta's very late play and offer (many days after he met Brisbane coach)for me is a problem. Whether or not we think Barnett would have been a good buy, if the club decide they are in for a player, surely they have to be a bit sharper about moving fast rather than 'making a late play' because he seems headed somewhere else

Yep.
The question remains why don’t the big name players want to come to the club?
Or stay here, with years to run on their contracts.

The answer is resources, not just cash. We heard during the Lomax court shenanigans that more cash doesn’t help improve our top 17. Look around and you’ll see a handful of clubs are obviously paying merkins less under the cap than most clubs would have to. The question is why.

Did the Broncos accrue their premiership side because of the chance to be coached by Kevin Walters? Wayne Bennett hasn’t won anything in 16 years but he’s somehow this massive drawcard for players? If so, why couldn’t he assemble a finals squad at the Dolphins? Why was Hasler such a great coach at Manly before Penn took over, but ordinary at Penn-era Manly and everywhere else? These clubs would have to be cooking the books in one way or another. It’s the only feasible explanation.

Bulldogs (Galvin) and Broncos (Pezet) both came in late to get their man. It shouldn’t be a disadvantage. In negotiations, being the first to make an offer is usually a disadvantage.

Hasler took the Bulldogs to two grand finals.

My only comment on the Barnett thing is that we were always going to be the Useful Idiots in this situation.

The actual question is, were the Club not actually the Idiots in this regard, and did it know this all along? Or were they oblivious and true Useful Idiots in every sense of the term?
How many of these players we missed were sign-at-any-cost players? You have to pay overs sometimes, not every time.
