That's the rumour. Cheap if it's successful?
I know we had to backend Brooks deal last year and that was (I think) $950k, but I believe he was on good coin prior anyway, so this is not much of a stretch.
But it's for '25 and I don't see the pennies doing us any favours, recalling they didn't for Laurie?
A lot of money for a ⅝ TM. I'm prety sure he would only come as a ½ to prove he's got it. I'm probably wrong though.
He has played ½ before.

100% he could be, however I doubt the Panthers will budge much and Luai would know that. $800-$850k is a fair offer from them for him. I would be pretty surprised if he came here for only $150-$200kpa more. My guess is we'd have to be offering at least $300kpa more than Penrith.
$1.1m over 4 years is the lastest rumour.
$800-850k from Penrith is a good offer for a ⅝. I'm still under the impression that he's coming as a ½ which would demand more money....am I wrong?

Benji has always said, he was interested in signing him, my reference was to the journalist saying we signed him, due to the emoji, though it’s not over the line yet, I don’t think.
I was referring to the journo too.

I won't believe any signing until it is officially confirmed. I do live in hope though.

1.1 m …That’s $250k extra .. and he’s a gangster so he has to react like one….I’ll have to trust what Benji sees in him. Benji can maybe show him how to create that extra man etc with his sideways run and whatever else....he’s still got the power of youth and playing second fiddle at Penrith may takes its toll. Especially after Ivans comments..and nathans heroics in the final as he sat on the sideline..

Penrith may add extra years to the contract, but it won't include extra money.

That’s why it’s more interesting.. I hope Benji doesn’t see Luai as just a trophy for the club coz he could easily not be and that wouldn’t be pretty… Like I say I’ll trust what he sees ..It’s doubtful he’ll go with ceraldo with all the headlines..

I still think the dogs are a huge chance.

In my opinion it comes down to 2 choices.....stay with a sucessful team, perhaps win a couple more rings.......wait for the gratification of extra money post footy. All sucessful clubs have a way of rewarding their loyal players....Roosters are the best at this......

Or take the cash and run, have a lot of pressure and attention on yourself....because of the cash you've taken.

Suddenly your having to do more creating, rather than just your job.....you don't have the team around you eithe......Whether that's a risk your willing to take....or not.

Burton a good example of this.

Interesting that both Laurie and Peachy have come back for reduced cotracts, after originally taking the big money offers.

Being a Penrith fan, I'd love him to stay.....but that's not a given.

Huge recruitment mistake by your club if it comes to fruition.

Jerome Luai works for the Panthers in our system, he will not work for you guys at over $1M a season in your system currently.

Seriously, this is the sort of panic signing you should be avoiding at all costs .

Keep you dollars and go for someone like AFB.

I think as a play maker coming to the club that has a familiar number 9 (and one of the best atm) plus Benji who he admires and a connection with Klem, it would be more tempting than the dogs.
More to your point WA, if we are successful in recruiting Luai it will most likely make or break Benji as a coach depending on Luai's success/failure.
After watching a stack of Luai's videos recently, I've formed the opinion that Luai will be awesome. He's too talented and confident just to sit on his butt or go into his shell.
As far as being a dick...well it's his way of playing confidently and gets results.
It will be up to Benji to harness the stupid stuff whilst encouraging the good stuff.....easy ha ha.

Absolute rubbish.
We are good in the forwards Dept. We have never had problems getting into the attacking red zone, instead we shit ourselves when we get there.
We need a half that's a livewire and he is what we need.
If he signs with us, great stuff and he will be treated like family, if he doesn't and he stays with the cats or signs with the dogs then he'll be treated like scum, easy.

The team around him wouldn’t be too bad , including creative and dangerous halves a backline thats on the mend. A spine that would be second to few and a very solid forward pack.

We hold the spoon, for the second year in a row, the club (rightly) is looking to improve that situation, not a lot of good players want to come here because of our lack of success, if one comes along, we need to go hard, if we can afford it, and we can.

Luai is in the elite class, (the fact a lot on panthers fans are here telling us it's a mistake), shows that he is, our coach was also an elite half, so I will give him the benefit of doubt, that he knows what he's doing.

The club may improve, eventually with our development program, but we do need to continue with trying to be successful, Benji's career hangs on these decisions, like all coaches do. All players come with risk, we've had a lot of flops, but the club still has to try, people calling for the club to be disbanded, relocate, have the license taken off them, so they look at a good player, people go crackers.

Luai, if he comes, would do more than help us win games, he will show our current backs and our kids in development what is required to get there.

All I know is, Nathan Cleary ain't coming.

Personally, I don't give a f**k, what position he plays, as long as we start winning. He can play if the forwards, if that's what it takes?
It's been reported, he wants to be the main play maker, don't think it matters that much where he stands in attack, just adjust the game plan, as long as it works.
Let’s not forget, if he can release Bula (Fijian teammate) into the attack, then the sky’s the limit for us.lol
IMO, $1m+a bit, is not that expensive these days, but I would have expected we needed to pay more for better players because of our position, e.g. if we were in Panthers position, you can offer less, we can't.

A spine of Bula, Luai, Sezer & Api has top 8 potential imo. Luai is also criminally under rated defensively.

His efforts for Samoa in the WC tells me he can be the man.

I think a lot of the negativity surrounding Jerome is the media push that he is unlikable. It makes no sense to me really. Apart from having an ego and giving an off colour wedding speech what has he done thats so bad.

I'll always be a Luai fan regardless of where he is playing beyond 2024.

Agree, they are a chance, but Gould has said he is chasing AFB, though his salary cap is different to everyone else's except maybe Easts, and the dogs aren't doing much better than us, plus I think Benji going to his house was a nice touch?

The other option is, join a club who is down and be seen as one of the players that has brought them up?

I think all clubs look after players who want to be looked after, at the end of thee career that is not exclusive to Penrith.

Lastly, if Laurie and Peachey had showed any promise, they would still be here. Penrith are paying for there success and it's not uncommon that they get ripped apart by other clubs and salary cap pressures on Penrith to keep them, we can only wish for that scenario?

So there's a chance you might come over to the light then, is there?lol
