Daily telegraph:
David Klemmer has emerged as an unsuspecting chess piece in the Wests Tigers' $4 million pursuit of Jarome Luai, via @DaveRic1.

That sounds crazy, he was one of our best?
Maybe we are going after AFB? Hahaha

Absolute rubbish.
We are good in the forwards Dept. We have never had problems getting into the attacking red zone, instead we shit ourselves when we get there.
We need a half that's a livewire and he is what we need.
If he signs with us, great stuff and he will be treated like family, if he doesn't and he stays with the cats or signs with the dogs then he'll be treated like scum, easy.

You said you watched Luai highlights.

watch when we played Roosters at Allianz, Cogger's 1st game with the club.

He sat on the left side all game, didn't take more control of the game.

As the Avi shows I am a Luai fan but he doesn't take control when Cleary is out, Can't play both sides. He will need to be paired with an organiser and force a couple of guys out. Huge risk

the panthers have a better winning record when just with Luai then with just Nathan

But what was the game plan, coaches instructions?

He’s not over the line, being here yet, but we are apparently prepared to take a risk, but by the looks of the many Penrith posters, I would have thought you would be happy to be rid of him?

Our coach know a bit about halves play as well, so I don’t think he has gone in with blinkers on.

But don’t forget Ivan has virtually pushed him out the door, with his ridiculous comments from a few weeks ago, I think he is going no matter what.
Ivan is starting to believe he really is the messiah?

Benji from all his years as a coaching?

Happy to get rid of him? not at all but he is replaceable. Particularly as the side looks to evolve so not to get stale.

Cleary will do 80% of the kicking,
The pack has been locked in.
sets will start well from kick returns

So he is down the list as far as is a need, which is likely partly as to why he wants to leave and good luck to him if he goes.

Fainu could do the same job for half the price for you guys

Where those comments incorrect though?

The lack of clubs banging on his door would suggest he is a risk at that much money

I don’t know and it’s really immaterial if they are correct or not, you don’t say that shit in public, if you want to keep a player?
If he goes and you don’t win the comp again, (and you won’t stay on top forever) was it because of him?
Seriously, the supposed money, is not that much, these days, clubs are offering near that to forwards.
What do you blokes do, if Nathan goes down with injury for a long period?
Anyway, I hope he comes and I hope he is great for us.

Fishing is an art.... cast the line, watch as the bidders fight each other over the player we cannot afford... for those who think Ivan pushed him aside, remember he still has 2024 to play 5/8th, at the riff..
The challenge was publicly placed out there, with romey knowing full well his price would sky rocket if a ladder dwellers all start bidding on a 3 time premiership half... i mean if chad and reyno can cash in after only winning one ring, and throw in moses for pawwa, with zero rings, imagine Romey with 3 titles, could even bag 4, if he doesn't phone it in this next season... 1.4 million is a steal, if im tigers, im rising the amount to 1.5 mill for a immediate release, for those 4 years, the younger the better, dont want to pay 1.4m for luai at age 32

Rubbish. Watch his rep games for Samoa.
He's very talented and confident.
I watched a game where Nathan was crap too, he also didn't get the Panthers home when the Tigers beat the Panthers this year.
Clutching at straws me think.

Unsurprisingly the Luai discussion has become skewed. I dont think whether Penrith will handle him leaving is up for debate. Theyve shown they are managing their cap/team better then anyone. As I said i believe $800-$850k is spot on for him from them.

I do find it rather hilarious that any time we are linked with a player its apparently 'not who you need.' If a 3 time premiership, state of origin, world cup finalist, 26 year old 5/8 isnt who the two time wooden spooners then I give up. I then see someone literally state that an 18 year old who has played like 7 games of nsw cup could do just as good a job as him, which defies belief. Another states we should instead target AFB, which shows they didnt us play at all last year. For the majority of the season we were in the Top2 meters gained and opposition 20 tackles, yet had the worst attack in the league. Forwards werent the problem, it was terrible halves (and coaching).

Of course we are going to have to pay overs to get him, thats generally how it works to get a player from another club, and even moreso to a team as low as ours. How much more is up to the player. Moses reportedly turned down $200-$300kpa extra to stay at Parra. Im sure you remember a decade ago Thurston turning down huge money from Penrith to stay in NQ.

However Jarome is his own man, we all know he has an ego. He could stay at Penrith, likley have a hugely successful career, yet always be considered the other guy. He seems like the type of guy who would back himself to turn a shit team into a good one and create his own legacy. Particularly after Ivans strange 'you aint shit without Nathan' comments, which clearly irked him enough to comment on instagram about. If he comes here he will be well compensated, as he should be, however I doubt that would be the only reason.

Any signing, particularly a big money one, is a risk, personally I think its a bigger risk to do nothing and hope that you get something from two 18 year olds. If Luai isnt a guy we should be signing, Im not really sure what people expect us to do?

You are correct, you dont say things like that... its basically Ivan doing Romy a favor, they both know romy is cashing in, and he has thrown the challenge out there,
"are you good enough to run your own side"
Benji seems to think so, and so do I, what he is able to at halfback is amazing, there are highlight reels of his reserve grade matches as a halfback, Nathan was the 5/8th in those teams, thecurrent panthers side plus kikau, sivo and katoa, smased to Hunters in the Interstate cup final in 2017, only reason he is parked in at 5/8th nowadays is Nathan grew into his adult body quicker than Romey did, so he was promoted first, whilst luai sat behind Maloney
