Wrap poor Sowie cotton wool. He has been dining out on that semi-final field goal and the premiership win for too long now. There is a new competition to win every year. Just ask Hasler, he wants to win ALL the time and will never bask in past glories. You enjoy the moment and move on to the next challenge. The attitude at St George and a few on this forum is that things are OK because we won a competition two years ago. We need to get that competitive streak back.

Breathing, how can you say Soward's been dining out 'totally and utterly' since 2010.

The guy is competitive, just poorly used.

Give him a break - attack his skills or his knowledge but leave his commitment alone unless you've got him on record saying he doesn't care or can't be f**ked.

Your judgement, like mine sometimes (believe it or not) can be skewed by disappointment or perception.

Ronnie...you know this how?

I'm from Cooma. I've known him and all his mates since they were kids. Been coached by my oldest mate since he was 12. I used to go out with his best mates sister. Her old man is a lunatic Dragons fan and chews my ear off about how he's in Sams ear whenever he sees him and thats what Sam tells him.

Josh Miller could be a trump card here. Sam loves him.

Just cant cop Sow Sow.

Soward has the skills, just needs a game plan to complement his great gifts. Bennett was quick and smart enough to identify Sowards skills and limitations. He made it all work fine for Soward and the team using the well known basic elements of disciplin, mateship, commitment and confidence to empower each player and the team to perform at their/its best. Little by little small adjustments were made and bit by bit Soward and the team grew in confidence and realized the success our Club had been waiting so long for.

All of Bennett's well crafted work lost within a year.

Like I've said all along, the team did not need an overhaul in 2012. The Dragons only needed incremental change to a plan/system that did a fine job for the previous 3 years.

I believe with some astute recruitment and some clever coaching, the Dragons would have been right up there again in 2012.

Mate, I played many games down there from 14's through to grade. Always tough "The Fish Eaters". Hippie Corner used to sledge you as a 15 year old!

Its funny, we always had their measure in the regular season, but they'd get us when it mattered, although, in my last year in 2006 reggies, we beat them in the knock out semi. First beat us in the GF though.

You've got me bringing up memories mate. To be young again.

One of my best mates growing up in Cooms has coached Eden the last few years. Runs the Great Southern down there. Getting married this summer down there. Will be good to catch up and reminisce.

Good times.

Also - they wear the Red V....but are the Eden Tigers. Too much salt in the air. Rusts the brain.

I played with Cooma U/18s and earlier in the mid-70's.

The bastards brought in a old-style (now) Berries jumper in orange on white. It was sad.

Spent many an evening down at the showground next to Back Creek with about two overhead lights on.

When I first started, I used to play (and train Tues, Wed & Thur) U/14, U16 and u18 all on the one weekend.....

Nothing like mild concussion, a sneaky beer and an army greatcoat as a young fellah.

Yeah mate, not much has changed really at the Showground. Theyve just done the sheds up after 45 years or something.

I stated Under 7's in 1983 for the Tigers (public schools). It shows how much country towns have changed. We used to have Tigers & St Pats with one or two teams in each age group, along with Bombala and Jindabyne. Played Sat mornings in minus 10 degrees temps! They wouldnt let you do it these days, the do gooders. Used to love it.

Played right through to 18's in 1994. Played grade for two years when they went to the Canberra comp in 97 & 98. Stopped when I moved to Canberra in 99 and had one last year in 2006. Stupid, but f**king great fun as a 30 yaer old to go back and play with kids and a few fellow old dead shits.

Good memories. I remember those Orange jumpers. The 2006 season was the 35th anniversary of Cooma Utd. We had an Orange stripe incorporated on the jersey along with Red & Green to acknowledge the old Rovers club.

I'll PM you a pic of it if you like.

Good times.

So what happened in the back half of season 2011....while under Bennett? Was that Price's fault too?

Well actually you might remember that Soward and Price had an onfield heated discussion towards the backend of 2011. I'm not laying blame at either one's feet but in hindsight the writing was on the wall that these two might have issues into the future.

Checking in for the Monaro area old boys reunion :) Played in juniors for Snowy River Bears in the early 70s. It was Berridale but my Dad involved in switching the name and colours to the bears (Berridale was horrible green colours). Fond memories of Cooma showground with an inch of ice on the ground :) My brother had the football genes and played many years for Queanbeyan Kangaroos (we hate the Furners, Queanbeyan Blues and the Raiders :))

WELL DER... Bennett was already in Newcastle by that point remember...:sarcasm:

Seriously the only problem I see with Soward is that he is actually a better half back/organiser then he is a five eight... And I hope that he still doesnt have the idea in his head that he doesnt want to be a half because then its a major issue that he will need to overcome.

Major identity problem for Soward especially if he cant see that the majority of his strengths as a player lay in directing the team around the paddock...

He could take the line on a bit more too but that to me is not the main issue, sort out the identity crisis that is Jamie Rockstar Soward and he will sort out the rest of his game.

People post all the time that he needs to take the line on more, that's garbage IMO. That is a fabrication of the media after Sticky said something regarding his SOO berth. First with Jamie it was "he is a defensive liability" which is now untrue. Now it's "he needs to take the line on more". Why? No wonder he is a rockstar, he cops it more than most players.

He should play to his strengths. Kicking, passing, running in broken play.

I agree Matt, I think he should be playing halfback. I don't think he should buy into all this "take the line on" crap. It is not his game and it doesn't need to be a part of his game, he offers enough to the team to simply play to his strengths.

I completely agree he should play to his strengths, but running the footy is one of them that's going to waste. He is lightning off the mark, has great footwork and is very elusive-he should add that unpredictable element to his skill-set & run the f**king pill!!

Ah yes Sticky,Jamie is just one of a long list of players Stuart has pissed off,Hodges and Crocker when they were at the Rooters comes to mind.At least these 3 players have gone on to better their careers no thanks to Stuart or maybe thanks to him.

Absolutely. They prematurely morned the loss of Bennet and then were confronted with the calibre of his replacement. Bit like a pocket full of all day suckers, for instead of bliss, you find a hole in your pocket. :D

There is no doubt that he is not in the form of earlier years where he seemed to regularly break the line and score or put on a try.

But I also agree that running running at the line is not his strength (I dont mind if he stays out of the impacts and stays uninjured each week), his running at the line this year was pretty telegraphed and ineffective stuff, he did it because people told him too... the only advantage of doing it is perhaps drawing in an extra defender (if indeed we had a gameplan to use it).

Maybe I am wrong, but in those early years when Soward broke the line he did so from second phase play and when the defensive line was not set.

He's a 1/2 back playing 5/8.
