I think Reni will take the 1yr deal with Sharks and than head off to the Cowboys or who ever offers him the big money.

If he doesn't accept Souths offer he will never be offered a contract again at the club.

I couldn't care if we got him or not, personally think he's over rated and more trouble than he is worth.
plus he has had some injuries.

We have plenty of locks and backrowers but on the other hand would be a good replacement for Kidwell in 2010.

:pThis mornings Paper:lol::lol::lol:

HALF a dozen Australian NRL clubs are ready to chase Kiwi rugby league international Simon Mannering if he ends negotiations with the New Zealand Warriors.

Souths are one club being linked to Mannering, who was the Warriors' player of the year in 2008.

Mannering's manager Steve Gillis says at least another five Australian clubs are also showing interest.

Aged 22 and able to play in the second-row and at centre, Mannering seems an outstanding prospect. He was one of the stars of New Zealand's win in this year's World Cup.

Mannering's contract with the Warriors ends next season and Gillis says his client is anxious to settle his long-term future as soon as possible.

"Simon wants to explore extending his contract with the Warriors and hopefully we can sort something out quickly," Gillis said.

"I'll be talking to (Warriors CEO) Wayne Scurrah in the next fortnight. Things are starting to take shape."

Mannering has also emerged as a possible target for wealthy rugby union clubs in Europe but Gillis said that a switch of codes was unlikely.

Mannering is one of my favourite players in the entire world.

Has an almost perfect RPI. An elite of the elite.

If he joined Souths, Id be entirely blown away.

Spare cash is a real commodity these day's & the slow process of rebuilding our Leagues Club will be a huge factor on who we can sign in the next couple of years.
I think that the Leagues Club will be sold at a profit in the near future to accomodate Souths using ANZ as their home base & buying another club out Homebush.

Thats fine by me and most of the fans who live out west.

But Mannering is a dead-set freak, one of the few players who deserve massive dollars.

He would be in the top 5 players ever to come out of NZ.

My bet is he'll be at Monday's 1st training session at Redfern... but I'm not fussed either way.

Franko you are right, there is an argument both ways. Some players have kicked on after leaving Souths, but there have been many that have not and because Souths were the "perrenial poor boys and loser club between the 90's and early 00, you'd expect players to "kick on" more than they did.

My arguement was that I hope that Reni does come to Souths because he being a Junior belongs here, and because of that he will play his best footy here. you know the stars aligning and all that.
It is not meant to be a factual theory, just a tribal one

I hope we do get him and he does get back to his best as he is a lethal player when on song.

I'm starting to fear the Storm might get him.

Bit selfish there Dave as Souths have supporters everywhere not just the Western Suburbs.

You've missed the point again Herbie, ANZ is closer to the majority of supporters because we are everywhere.

There was a guy who used to post on the official forum before it closed down that reminds me of you but his name escapes me at the moment.

Did you ever particiapte there Herbie?

Former Bulldog Reni Maitua To Make Decision On New Club Soon
By James Phelps

Decision soon...Reni Maitua. / The Daily Telegraph

AXED Bulldog Reni Maitua is expected to decide on his future in the next few days.

The former Test lock has been weighing up his options with four clubs - North Queensland, Melbourne, Cronulla and South Sydney - in the hunt for his signature.

"He is thinking about whether or not to leave Sydney," his manager Sam Ayoub said. "It is a lifestyle choice and he has to work out where he will play his best football."

It is understood the offers from all four clubs are of similar cash value.

But the chance to play under NSW coach Craig Bellamy at premiership powerhouse the Storm may prove irresistible for Maitua, who will be looking to re-establish his representative career this year.

Maitua was sacked by the Bulldogs late last year for failing to turn up to training.

It was the final nail in the coffin for Maitua, who was branded a repeat offender.

Melbourne have stated that they wont be making a play for Reni as they havent got any room in there cap, they have tried shoping some of there players around but havent been able to make room for Reni. North Queensland pulled out about 10 days ago so they arent in the race. Cronullas appeal would be less than it was as Stuart is no longer Australian coach and i dont know how serious they are.Not a good look signing Maitua with the ongoing Bird saga. I am pretty confident he wil be in the Red and Green.
