How many of these ‘next best thing’ assistant coaches actually live up to it when they’re running their own team? AOB was a can’t miss coach in waiting 3 years ago. Garth Brennan had an even more successful apprenticeship in the same system as Ciraldo and was seen as a joke within 2 years.

Agree that AOB needs to go and the sooner the better but no point getting too attached to any one coach.

John Morris & Josh Hannay are 2 that don’t seem to be getting any media hype but both had promising stints as interim head coaches. Hannay is apparently the tactical coach behind the scenes for the Maroons/Slater.

Yeah I’m not jumping on board the Ciraldo hype train just yet. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, AOB should only get fired if a more experienced and successful coach is available and an untested rookie doesn’t fit that criteria.

I’m also not sold on Ciraldo. His biggest attraction for me is he knows Newcastle.

But it’s easy for him to get praise and players to love him when the Panthers have been as good as they’ve been for a few years now.

I think who ever we get as head coach, I want an equally as credentialed assistant or former head coach helping out.

Where the heck did Todd Payten come from? Was assistant in a struggling Warriors team? Made them look good when he took over and now we see what he’s done in a year in Townsville.

I think we need an experienced hand onboard and not some rookie with a steep learning curve that would be best suited to an established roster and culture.

We need a coach that knows how to assemble a roster and create a winning culture.

Im in the Flannagan train

Flannagan would be wonderful. Clear the dirt out and whatever the result, we know our team won't fold and at least been the dirtier team.

I feel like we need a massive culture change at the club and I don't know if a bloke that was involved in a massive drug cheating scandal in the past is exactly the best candidate for that...

To be honest, I'm on the Flanagan train, too.

He was always highly touted (like AOB and Ciraldo) and then went on to build the Sharks up and get them their first premiership. They did it in beautiful fashion too.

Yes there is an asterisk there but I still don't think you can question everything else outside of that.

Kind of agree with Mr Knightside that AOB will see out the year unless we suffer further massive losses and an extended losing streak. Then by the end of the year who knows who'll be left. We may end up with Madge.

IF the Raiders put 50 on us this weekend, it'll certainly make things interesting.

The culture issue at our club isn't with cheating. We aren't known to bend the rules to win at any cost. We're the opposite. It looks like we do everything possible to get a pass mark.

Flanagan's mentality will be a godsend for us. I have no issue with treading the fine line between what is legal and what might be considered iffy if we are always trying to win.
