I actually feel sorry for the bloke. His coaching career is being completely destroyed by these bunch of lazy muppets he's coaching.

Not saying it isn't entirely his fault but at least he gives a f**k unlike majority of our players

Still say the club can no longer hide behind the obvious. It has failed. Again. it needs to stop putting itself into positions where they have no leverage. Don’t extend until you see the results improve. O’Brien’s
Contract extension was reactionary. Who was actually after him? Any player or person attached to Moses should be told thanks but no thanks.

If he were to get the boot, do we go after a experienced coach like Toovey, Flanagan or McGuire

or do we go for another assistant coach who is meant to be the next big thing, like a Ryles or Ciraldo

I’d personally give the Walker brothers a crack, they are trying some really interesting things in QLD cup that have varying levels of success, I’d love to see experimentations on different things vs just playing catch up with Melbournes system

I get shot down every time I suggest this. Let's do something different for a change.

Are the walker bros even still coaching?

My gut instinct is Ciraldo would love to coach here and is waiting for the chance. Could be wildly wrong too...

I think Id like a second chance coach like a Flanagan. Like they knew what it takes to win and they'd want to make things perfect as possible with their second chance, surely.

Still cant shake the feeling that changing the coach is just changing the curtains.

There are bigger problems. We don't actually have anyone who understands football running the joint.

No matter what we do it's evident there will be no quick change, and perhaps that's why AOB is still here (along with not wanting to pay him out probably).

It does feel like the club is making baby steps to correct things and put us in good stead in 3-5 years time but who really knows. I feel like I've been saying that for the past 15 years.

Still bothers me to see how quick the Cowboys and Broncos were able to turn things around though.

This is a fair point, it seems like we are just constantly behind the 8-ball with everything we do.

Our biggest problem, besides the coach, is the lack of space to bring in fresh talent, by my count we have 11 players who are signed until season end. Already gone are Barnett, Lee, Momoisea and Sue with Crossland, Lucas, Milford, Musgrove, Purcell, Saulo and Hoy unsigned. Keeping in mind we have already signed Elliott and Hetherington. Not much room to improve the team.
We do have half our squad signings expiring end 2023

And that is why the interview process is the most important part of the whole setup. Actually setup your questions to reflect how you expect a person to respond to fixing this club. If they do not hit the mark on every question just keep going till you find the person who does. Know exactly what you expect and do not compromise. Forget what system they are from. That is completely misleading.

The coach should respond as a coach would. It is not his job to do anything but figure out how to win games and look after his players. Anything beyond that is not his problem. it is the CEO's job to ensure that is all his deal is. In fairness to O'Brien i think he does a lot of leg work his CEO should be doing. He looks worn down. If Gardner wants Obi as his coach he needs to get on the front foot and tell the players it will be them first and Adam second out the door. No mutinies. I am completely empathetic towards Adam. I think there is enough in him to still be a successful coach elsewhere. But it is not working here.

What actually makes you say that, about him being successful elsewhere? (sorry, not meant to sound like having a go - actually curious) I couldn't tell you what positives he's brought here tbh.

Our footy style has looked as shit as ever whilst he's had the best roster we've had in the last 10 or so years. Recruitment and retention has been ultra questionable too thanks to his Moses mate. He's had much more to work with than Brian, Stone Bennett and Brown ever did.

I feel for him too, but can't pretend he hasn't played his part in being a problem.

The question that needs answering is how did our actual identity as a club get lost. We were once the hardest most uncompromising hombres in the game. I’d take the losses if we could get a ounce of that back.

Love the football the Bulldogs are playing at the moment. Maybe we should take a look at Mick Potter? They’ve improved so much since he took over.
