Ponga is not the one in need of the BYE. I don’t know if our reserves are on during magic round but I think you’d consider him for it. He needs reps.

Does everyone think Obi gives the boys the week off?

He said some of them would get a week off and others would need to do extra work during the break.

Just saw on IG that Best is in Bali LOL. Definitely wouldn’t say that he deserved a week off given his defensive errors. I’d be happy with the older blokes like Tyson and Gags getting a rest, especially since they’ve been good, but the rest should be working unless they’re injured.

Honestly, as much of a nightmare the Eels game was... I think if anyone deserves a break in our team it's probably our outside backs. They've been huge for us this year. Best is probably having his best year to date, even though it hasn't been as explosive as some of his highlight reel stuff. I can cop him having earned a week off.

Dunno where Ponga is, but the skyline in the background of his insta story definitely doesn't look like Newcastle

Edit: based on the movement it looks like the revolving restaurant at Centrepoint tower

Can understand giving a break from training etc but they should have been kept local, NSW, QLD so any niggling injuries can be dealt don’t want the likes of Best coming back from Bali or wherever injured or unwell

Looks like the twins will be having a quiet one this week.......

What odds they're still drunk when they're next ambling out onto the field?

Non local so don’t pick up when boys are running wild but have seen comments on Safs drinking a few times, is it an ongoing problem or is it just poking fun

I’m not a Newcastle local either but I think it might be because they seemed to get themselves into trouble a few times whilst on the drink in the past. Jacob obviously got knocked out by Cordner’s brother and I’m pretty sure the brothers had a scuffle with each other a few years back too. Not sure if there’s some other stuff but the local Newcastle fans might have more intel.

This is it for me. I understand people saying they’re entitled to do whatever they want with their time off but going to Bali significantly increases the odds of him coming back from pre-season unwell, exhausted or injured. He’s not going there to relax. For the ones that have gone on holiday, it really shows where their priorities are, and it’s not being at their best to play.

To be fair to AOB, he can’t tell them to cancel their trips and this is more on the players, but it says a lot about how we’re run that they thought this would be OK.

We're at such a different time for player mental wellness. This trip could be exactly what they needed to get back on track or it could derail our entire campaign. Time will tell.

I don't have a view either way whether it's good or bad right now.

A lot of terrible takes are going to be made because of these trips. We've looked bad and have lost line speed and the ruck since Brailey broke and we had no genuine 9.

Any game we lose after the bye is going to lead to shit takes about it relating to the trips and not anything rational.

What a terrible time to be alive and a fan of NRL when the boss of a rival unrelated(I assume Bulldogs and Knights aren't sworn enemies) club is blasting the club and players for a holiday. The conflict of interest is unbelievable.
