Gids service was very sharp today. The speed of his passes helped the team roll the ball forward. Hopefully he stays injury free and Waddell doesn't get another look in.

He really sparked us today when he came back on with his enthusiasm and that's what Gids does best for us. If he keeps just doing that out of dummy half and leaving the playmaking to Mullo/Roberts/Boyd/Dobbo I think he could do a good job there.

Aku was great today as well.

How much difference a week makes. Really impressive stuff and looked close to a natural hooker, didn't have a whinge over every small incident and took runs at perfect opportunities. I think it is something that will improve in weeks to come when our attack is more composed when led by Mullen. I always felt he could be incredibly useful as a hooker with his speed and experience in the backline.

He and Clydsdale had an excellent rotation. Seemed like Wayne is backing Clydsdale quite a bit and he's certainly stepping up. Waddell's only entry into this team now is through injury. I actually thought he was excellent in NSW Cup. Perfect for him.

It was always premature. Everyone is entitled to a bad game sometimes.

I'd say calling this thread premature is a bit premature... one good game does not erase many shit ones.

Like I said in the game thread, yeah it is just one good game. By my count that's one good game and one bad one (Panthers doesn't really count and Raiders was basically neither good nor bad).

My point this whole time has just been to give him a chance to get used to hooker and our combinations. More than 2 games anyway.

Nor do many sh*t games erase even more team carrying efforts. Some short memories around here. Gids just needs time after so long out and he's starting to show good improvement and will only get better.

Happy to give him more chances to prove me wrong but that was against the sharks where we dominated basically everywhere. Wait till the games where there is more pressure and he starts to try to run the show again.

Think he should be 14 with clyde starting

Yeah, he was good today. He needs to be that every week.

No kicking, either. Hopefully Mullo is back soon, and will do all of that anyway.

I very much doubt there would be many sportsman in the world who in their chosen sport could be out for as long as Gids has and nail it within the first few goes upon their return. He'll continue to improve.

You have to remember gids has hardly stepped onto the field in 2 years. The form he displayed yesterday is a lot better than someone who has barely played in 2 years. I would say he is exceeding expectations and will only get better with game time.

If gidley plays like he did yesterday he is a certain number 14 for NSW

Gees credit where it's due but I think we're going slightly overboard here, one decent game against an opposition that didn't throw anything at us isn't exactly a sign he's made it. When he rises under abit more scrutiny against a team that isn't running dead last, that's when he's made it.

I'm very much with you on this one. It was less than a week ago and people on here were saying Gidley needed to be shipped off, Mason was well past it, Uate needs to get dropped, etc. I've always been hammering the point home on here that a couple of poor games doesn't demonstrate how the rest of someones career is going to pan out. It's a sport, it is next to impossible to be at the top of your game every week, especially when you factor in injuries or players coming back from injuries. A players form can have a variety of contributing factors. It isn't as black and white as many fans think.

Jesus, it was one game guys. They need to provide that every week to get out of the hate zone.

One good game per month is not going to cut it. The Sharks were shithouse... they had very little line speed and were dropping off tackles all over the place. We put them to the sword, as we should have... but we need to be doing this week in, week out.

Oh there is a ways to go pervy, no doubt.

Dobson is starting to look 1 dimensional. Short pass to Scott or a chip to the edge seems his only plays in the opposition red zone. The rest of the time he seems to run around with little idea.

We are still conceding too many offloads too. That will kill us against more competent sides

I would describe Dobson as just barely adequate. Doesn't excel at anything in particular... but can do a job for us if everything else around him is working properly.

Doesn't have as many tricks in his bag as Tyrone or Mullo, but then he hasn't trained with the team for years like those two, either. I would have liked to have seen more grubbers out of Tyrone and Dobson with Mullo out, absolutely nothing wrong with a repeat set... then again it seems that we back ourselves to score off any attacking set, which is reasonable at full strength and worked well for the Roosters last year. We certainly have the ball movement and attacking potency to score a lot of points at full strength.

Dobson would be a lot better if he he had a bit more pace. When he goes to the line, he doesn't have that bit of acceleration to threaten the line like most halves do. When there's no numbers out wide he either forces the pass, or basically drops to the ground. I will say though, when he does have the right numbers he is very good at picking the right man - face ball to Gagai last week looked brilliant.

I think Dobson is as good a backup half as there is around in the competition. We are lucky to have a half who can genuinely be the lead playmaker at NRL level sitting in reserve grade.

I am very happy with his signing. Without him there would be way too much pressure on Tyrone if Mullo is out.
