That brain snap by Gidley was the last straw.

Needs to go although I am not sold on Clydesdale but he is a step up from Gidley.

The best hooker not playing NRL who should be is Glanville

You mean Granville?

Is Srama first choice? He has only started once all year(yesterday) and that was only with Falloon out. He didn't play big minutes either.

Yeah Granville.

Srama has been injured most of the year due to shoulder injury but is their best when fully fit.

Granville is off contract this year.

Yeah I rate Srama over Falloon for sure, just not sure Cartwright does. I think his preference is one or the other with Carter on the bench.

That brain snap by Gidley was the last straw.

Its dumb football.

I guarantee Cam Smith would have run just to Farah's right shoulder, slowed the play down, got in the way, and ruined their opportunity to attack with absolute professionalism..... the refs wouldnt have even penalised him.

Our captain?

Run the guy over and then attempt to explain your innocence.......

Its time.

Kurt Gidley moves into halves after struggling at hooker

AS he prepares to partner Jarrod Mullen in the halves against North Queensland at Hunter Stadium on Monday, Knights captain Kurt Gidley believes his days as a full-time hooker are over.

After starting at fullback against the Roosters and hooker against the Tigers in Newcastle’s past two losses, Gidley will play his third position in as many matches as the Knights try to end a seven-game losing streak against a Cowboys side chasing their first away win this season.

Desperate to find a winning combination, Newcastle coach Wayne Bennett has promoted Adam Clydsdale to replace Gidley at dummy-half and dropped Tyrone Roberts, who has started every game this season at halfback, to the bench.

‘‘Wayne and I looked at each other in the eye after training on Wednesday and I think we both knew that I had a bigger impact in the game last week at fullback than I’ve had at hooker all year,’’ Gidley said after training yesterday.

When former Test hooker Danny Buderus retired at the end of last season, Gidley was expected to finish his career as Newcastle’s No.9, but the 32-year-old skipper conceded yesterday that the experiment had failed.

‘‘I’ve played there sporadically in rep teams, but I knew my role there would only be for a short period of time through the Aussie team, Origin, and even Country, so I knew my role then was just to be enthusiastic and get out of dummy-half quick,’’ he said.

‘‘But when you’re 31 and you move to hooker for a permanent role, it’s a pretty big adjustment on your career, and it’s certainly a position that you need to get used to, and you need to have been playing hooker as a kid.

‘‘We’ve tried it this year and it probably hasn’t worked. It probably hasn’t worked for the team, and it probably hasn’t worked for my game personally. I don’t think I’ve been playing as good a footy as I could have been because I’ve been at hooker.

‘‘I’ve been defending well there. Line speed is a huge part of a footy team and the hooker is a big part of that, and there’s kick pressure, but those three roles, that’s all I feel like I’ve been doing.

‘‘I haven’t been carrying the ball as much as what I’d like to, so yeah, it was a tough adjustment and it probably hasn’t worked for the team.’’

Filling in for Darius Boyd in Newcastle’s 29-12 loss to the Roosters nine days ago, Gidley ran 16 times for 102 metres and made 14 tackles. Those were season highs for runs and metres and a season low for tackles.

‘‘I’ve played all over the place throughout my career, and I thought I was going to be hooker all of this year, but personally, I don’t think that’s where the team gets the most out of me,’’ he said.

‘‘So I’m moving into the halves with Mullo this week, and at least I’ll be buzzing around the ball, get my hands on the footy and be able to run the ball, which is one of my best strengths, just carrying the ball.

‘‘When you’re at hooker, you can motivate guys, but you’re not behind them. You’re in front of the play all the time, and a big part of my game is communication with the boys and trying to motivate guys, and you can do that best when you’re standing behind them.

‘‘If you’re playing in the halves or fullback, you can do that, and you can also get some carries.’’

Gidley hoped to finish the season in the halves but said that would be determined by the result tonight.

‘‘We’ll probably be able to answer that on Tuesday, but I really hope it is. I’ve played in the halves at different times in my career, and probably over the past couple of seasons,’’ he said.

‘‘Has it worked? Well, it probably hasn’t, because that’s why I moved to hooker, but I’ll do everything I can to make it work this game, and for the rest of the year.’’

Prop David Fa’alogo has been ruled out after straining his back in the gym last week and Bennett is deliberating between Korbin Sims and Chris Houston to start.

Cowboys skipper Johnathan Thurston has been treated for a corked thigh from Origin II but is expected to play.

The visitors have lost Maroons centre Brent Tate (knee) and prop Matt Scott (fractured eye socket) to long-term injuries. Coach Paul Green has promoted Curtis Rona for Tate, and added forwards Sam Hoare and John Asiata to the bench.

The Knights have won just one of five at home this year, and two of their past nine stretching back to last June.

Good to see that he's admitted that his time at both hooker and in the halves has not been effective. Although, I'm not too sure what he expects to be different in the halves this time round.

I think the supposed signing of Carlos Tuimavave for next season spells the end for Kidley in 2015. Bennett knows that he can't be fullback, hooker or (for the second time) halfback. He is also no good as a bench player because he would only be used to relieve Clydsdale or to cover an injury in the halves.

Well there's the confirmation that Bennett's line about him being needed in the halves was just a cop out and really they just needed to get him out of hooker and try something else. Him in the halves tonight will probably be an epic failure but he was never as bad there as he has been at hooker this year so at least it's worth a shot.

Ultimately though this article gives me a little hope that he might not stick around much longer. He seems to be admitting that hooker hasn't been good for him or his team, and if him in the halves goes no better he may actually make the decision himself and not be pushed. The only thing I could really see them doing with him next year would be using him as a bench player that either comes on and has a short stint in the halves while Tyrone gives Clydesdale a break or coming on when we look flat and playing a roving type role out the back. I'm hoping though instead of going through the awkward ordeal of handing over captaincy he may just head off to England. He's 32 now. If he wants a couple of seasons over there as reported he needs to go soon anyway.

Apart from fullback, Gidley's best position is coming off the bench. It's a real shame that he's captain, otherwise Bennett probably would have put him there by now. As a bench player, he'd be able to come on and relieve an injury to any of the back line players, or he could come on and play lock at the back end of halves. In 1995 Malcolm Reilly dropped Mark Sargent to the bench and gave Paul Harragon the captaincy. It was a gutsy move and he gained a lot of respect from me for doing it. Bennett really needs to look into doing this with Gidley.

It's a signal that his time is up, even he is admitting that.

I hope that the coach has had a real heart to heart and his manager is looking for a UK deal right now.

Bennett could really shake things up and put Gids in the 1 and Darius to the wing. At least Kurt will attempt to catch and return the ball.
