I'm in the same boat.

It still sucks, but if it was a systematic attempt to gain an advantage, I'd be gutted.

Turns out it was just incompetence, which is easier to digest.

Even better, the merkins involved are all gone already.

can someone even tell me wtf the 2nd tier NYC cap is? .... did anyone even know it existed?

Now come on mate.

http://www.nrl.com/nrlhq/referencecentre/salarycap/tabid/10434/default.aspx

HOLDEN CUP: PAYMENTS FOR THE TOP 20
$250,000 - Basic payments for the Top 20 players.

Payments for Holden Cup players outside the top 20
$50,000 - Cap for all players outside of the Top 20 who compete in Holden Cup.

How can you have an educated guess at player contracts unless you know the maximum, minimum and average salaries under each cap?

Mate, to release a player we sometimes have to carry some of their freight for the duration of the original contract. While I understand that we are not paying any of Kelepi's Cowboys contracts (this might be wrong) we are definitely paying nearly $100k for Loko (though he is no longer in our top 25) and enough of Lee Mossop that he too counts in the 2nd tier.

Do the sums, if Loko at nearly $100k isn't in our top 25 then our minimum wage isn't the $77,500 set by the NRL and it wouldn't take long to spend the $440k ($340k if you take out Loko) before breaching.

Well that makes sense I guess

Only if his $100k is not the 26th or less higher paid salary.

EDIT:
If we are paying Loko $100k and he is NOT in our top 25 it means that ALL of our top 25 are getting at least $101k.
It also means that Loko is taking our 2nd tier cap down to $340k before a ball is kicked.
Add any other players who we had released but were still paying part of (assuming less than $100k) and that too comes off our 2nd tier meaning we could have effectively had next to nothing in the 2nd tier cap to use in NRL.
Get an injury or two to a Top 25 player (which we did) and you need to get NRL exemption to bring someone into the team that isn't in top 25 already or you breach.

This all makes sense, but it appears that playing Kelly has taken us to the end of the 2nd tier cap limit. Given the circumstances that our 2nd tier cap was in, you would have to say that playing Kelly wasn't the smartest move we could've made.

Yes, because the only two options are to either think the club is the worst thing in the world, or to think it's a paradise where nothing is wrong at all.....:sarcasm:
Well if you sit in the middle of those two then everyone has a go at you:lol:

Simple question, why can't one just hold management accountable around here without being derided by the mob as being in someone's camp?

I think they're sick of our political bullshit year after f**king year, and they want it fixed. That's why they're making an example of us.

You can guarantee that this independent governance and organisational review will probably indicate that the club must have independent directors on the board.

Absolutely - and we're reportedly already well on the way to fixing the issue, so we may not even get docked points next year.

I heard late this evening that if we don't breach the cap they can't dock points despite putting governance conditions in our breach notice. Legal advice would indicate that deducting points for not complying with governance breaches would not make it in court if challenged.

That's good news!

Or it was - once he has played (assuming he is 2nd tier) he is free to play again all year and we needed to have at least one back up half available to us.

No club in their right mind is going to challenge the governing body, who makes discretionary payments to the organisation, in any court.
