From my point of view as an average Eels supporter I have to say I am dismayed at the latest saga and all that goes with it. I bet there are a bunch of similar minded Eels supporters who would agree with me that we have all had enough of seeing our proud club being continually dragged through the mud from one crisis to the next. We've become the Kardashians of the NRL. I also figure it's no co-incidence that this gets maximum attention one week into the new season. If they keep this up without someone fixing it once and for all then I , as an average Eels supporter will find other avenues in sport to spend my hard earned on.
It's not so much this latest saga, but the succession of sagas that plague our club.
For 45 years I've followed Parramatta. I will forever follow them.
But to be honest, the game of rugby league has become predictable and boring. It has lost its innocence. It was better when the powers that be let it be what it is.
Yet, year after year, the rules change, to try and make the product more exciting and watchable, yet year after year, coaches screw the rules and bend and warp the interpretations.
And year after year, the NRL or international body change the rules to counteract this.
The media speculation , power and penetration is ridiculous.
Like I said, it's not the sport it used to be. It has become an uncontrollable machine dictated to by media moguls and fan discontent, and the reactionary whims of its governing body.
It's a shame really, because the game I grew up with in the 70's and 80's was innocent, exciting, original and developing. It is now just a media driven machine, and it has become robotic.
I used to watch as much NRL as I could on tele. Now, I'll switch over to check the score. Nothing more. Except for Parra games.
