Sam Tomkins: coming to an NRL club near you

3 try assists and 1 try. Others have been way worse at the Warriors.

His Try/Assists per game is higher in the NRL than in the ESL so far, in attack he's doing ok there considering. Defence obviously still needs a lot of work.

Was always a risk at his price tag. That said IF Locke was fit you may have Tomkins at 5/8 with Locke at fullback.

That is correct. In fact the only way the Warriors have of making the final 8 is if Locke goes to FB, and Tomkins links up with Shaun Johnson in the halves.

Of course, in talking about the finals I am also assuming that the Warriors get rid of their sad sack coach.

Let us not forget that when Ivan Cleary was coach in 2011, the Warriors made the Grand Final. Locke, Tomkins, and Johnson, with a cab for Malcolm Elliot, would be a grand final making formula IMO.

There is nothing wrong with Elliott, if there was Johnson wouldn't have reacted so positively to his sacking after the shit Penrith game he had last year. If Johnson was put in his place by Tomkins moving to 5/8 I wouldn't put it past him to spit his dummy, as it is now he's trying to alienate the Pom rather than compliment him

Fullback struggling defensively, let's put him at 6 where it is much more difficult to defend....

At least he wouldn't have to catch a bomb lol! Really think he is limited but his best chance is at 5/8, just think they overpaid though. That said I rate him.

He was never going to be a superstar here tbh, I think people had this impression that he was the second coming of christ due to his paycheck.

We were miles under the cap, so they spent it. No real biggie. His attacking stats are decent enough.

If he didnt come with a huge reputation nobody would be commenting.

Will be interesting to revisit this thread in the second half of the season.

Under the high ball, once his teammates start running blocks and doing other basic covering stuff he'll look a lot better.

With Elliot coaching they might not ever do that.

Tomkins will be a gun buy for the Warriors.

The Warriors will click into gear mid-season and make the finals.

If Elliott was a decent coach he would have won at least one finals game in the last dozen years. That stat is damning.

There is nothing wrong with Elliott in this instance, easy to blame a bloke that maybe finally has conceded his game plans were too complicated only to be thwarted by a prima donna playmaker.

What a load of crap. Fullbacks have to be the best one on one defenders in open space in the game. I've seen nothing saying Tomkins can't defend one on one. If Maloney was fullback for the Roosters he would be lousy at it. 5/8 is the least demanding in defence, another reason Lockyer was put there.

The Warriors need to score tries, Elliott needs tries scored . . . the best man to rectify that is not only too far removed, he can't get his playmaker to look for him

Johnson has passed the ball on to Tomkins no more, less or differently than any other half has to their fullback. Tomkins is on big money to catch and pass, drop bombs and slip over every time he's in danger of having to attempt a cover tackle.

Funny man . . . Johnson uses Tomkins as a last resort when he should be playing to the Pom's strengths and at least give the opposition the impression Tomkins is the go to man. Shaun's too self centred to realise the better he makes the Pom look the better he'll look.

The Warriors lacking in defence is the reason the fullback has too many blokes running at him . . . Slater would be slipping and sliding with the sort of help Tomkins is getting

Nah he uses him in the typical set backline plays every team has, and has put him on the outside of his man twice in two games for simple catch and pass try assists. No different to any other half and fullback combination, same plays same frequency.

Its a pity Tomkins isn't with the Roosters or even the bulldogs. He would absolutely light it up with those squads.

Absolute waste of talent with the Warriors.
