The Warriors have been trying for years to get top flight Australians to the club. Most are not interested. We have always had room for them, but we can't attract them over. So the $750k is not an issue for the club at this point. Steve Price FWIW was probably on a similar proportion of the salary cap but no one said boo about that.
Second, if you kept your ear to the ground, you'd know To,kins has an England international union brother and has for some time thought about Union. This is no new thing. It's got nothing to do to with coming to the Warriors or the NRL. It's just a long known fact. He has things he wants to achieve in league first such as winning an NRL title and proving himself. He's got a long way to go on both counts. While, mostly the media, talk about the union thing his eye is very much on proving himself down here. He came here for a challenge and he's getting it. He's a champion and he will continue to get better. Given he was a key part of 4 Warriors tries on Saturday, I'm quite comfortable with what we've got. I admire Kevin Locke, but his passing skills don't free Konrad Hurrell up as easily as Tomkins did. More so, it's finally allowing Johnson to focus on organising, knowing he has someone with similar speed and footwork as SJ to make or create a break which the Warriors have desperately needed.
