SBW back in the NRL in 2013

Didn't he sign a four year deal with the Broncos? His contract expired because he exercised an option in his contract. Not the same, I know, but still no saint.
Although if it was upto me Folau would get a life ban as well but yes he is a saint relatively speaking. Folau fulfilled his contract. Everything he did was acceptable as part of his contract, including exercising any option to end it. He is twice the man SBW is.

Pretty sure it was only a 2 year deal with the option for 2 more after.

So nothing wrong with it.

Folau had a two year deal with a two year option at Brisbane.
He chose not to stay for the extra two years and announced that he would be leaving.

Totally different situation to SBW.

One year contract for a seriously injured player who won't start preseason training until months after his teammates. ONE YEAR CONTRACT. He wants to play in the next Rugby World cup. ONE YEAR CONTRACT.

Mark my words, this will bite the Roosters on the arse.

What exactly do they lose? They get one year of having their crowds get boosted by all the hype around SBW and they potentially get some great football from a player who was once close to the best in the NRL.

If he leaves at the end of the year they can just move on without him (which they would have to do whether they sign him or not).

This could backfire if SBW ends up just missing the season through injury otherwise it is a great move for the club imo.

I say this as someone who dislikes both the roosters and SBW.

Can not wait to see if he is in the line up to play the bulldogs when that eventually comes around. Tony Williams, Kasiano and even Inu will smash this money-grabbing merkin back to New Zealand where he belongs.

He is a nothing signing, the Roosters over-paid for an injury-prone benchy. He has nothing on the big fellas we have in league today.

See ya at Newtown, Sonny.

Pfffft. None of those players are a patch on him.

The ability to sign a top salary star who is going to help rebuild the club over the next 4-5 years? Very doubtful his signing will make much difference unless he wins them a lot of games.

Smacks of afl signing folau in many ways, lot of money for little return.

Who could we sign next year that is a top salary star to help us re build?

If this one year deal fails then we have space to enter in the market, where if I remember correctly a few big guns are coming off contract.

If it works out them it'll be great for all the young kids in the squad, as they'll all lift cos SBW is in town.

Alot to gain, with stuff all to lose due to one year deals

What player is on the market that they could sign which would do that? This doesn't need to be a long term thing either. At the very least they will get some big crowds off the back of him.

If things don't work out well it's a one year contract and they can move on. Seems like a small risk with a chance of some high returns. It probably will work out somewhere in between but it's hardly a disaster for the roosters.

Except, you know, that SBW was close to the best rugby league player in the world when he left. How the f*ck is that remotely close to the AFL signing a player who has never played the game before and was in no way suited to play it?

The roosters will be paying far less than the AFL did for Folau with a much bigger chance to get some return for their money.

I'd love to see Burgess vs SBW

They both go for the big hit, both dislocating their shoulders and out for the season. Seriously wouldn't surprise me...

And then loose two or three of; RTS, Cordner, Pearce, Tasi, Aubusson, or Tupou?

There's a long term strategy in place and SBW doesn't compromise that, a long term deal with a superstar of the game would. SBW allows a lot of flexibility in the cap and if or should I say when ridiculous figures start to get thrown at our youngsters we'll have the money available to keep them.

This is the long term goal, not signing a star on a big salary for numerous years.

Doesn't matter how sbw left compared to how folau left the fact is folau is desperate to get back into the game for a 4 YEAR CONTRACT yet SBW is in for 1 season to Pisa off at the end and box, play union ride motocross or whatever f**king sport he wants to partake in. If badminton offered him a mil he would probably take it. The guy doesn't give a f**k about the code or else he would have walked away with more respect for dogs and NRL

All he is is a marketing tool for NRL and roosters will probably only get less than half a season from him

And Folau all of a sudden gives a shit about the code?

The way SBW left the game is unparalleled but don't be naive. Folau signed with a club & organisation who only wanted to use him with the intention of hurting the game that made Folau. He doesn't give a shit about the code, unlike SBW he failed in his switch and has come back with his tail between his legs probably too cautious of embarrassing himself again by trying to pick up a new sport.

what is this i dont even

Seriously, actually, what? Sonny-Bill Williams was not even near the best back-rower in the NRL, never mind the best player in the world. He had some impressive big hits in his highlight reel, but frankly I'd have taken Tonie Carrol over him all day, every day.

Sonny-Bill was marketable and a media darling, at least for a while. His abilties on the field in no way compare to the hype surrounding him.

Haha the detractors are getting killed at every turn.

But they're persistent, I'll give'em that.
