What do we reckon more of the same in this test from Watson?

25 and then he gets out with a lapse in concentration.

Will he at least make a 50 in this test?

Going to be an emotional roller coaster in this test for sure. It will affect all of us.

Hope they do it for Phil.

Series is over so he will make a 100 in the second innings when Australia lead by 400 and be a lock for the Ashes later in the year because of it.

Pretty surprised Starc is in - he looks to be a talent, but just can't establish line and length, and doesn't have that bit extra that allows Johnson to get away with so much shit.

I really hope Harris doesn't get bowled into the ground - there's a fair chance Starc will be poor, Watson doesn't do his share, and unless conditions are tailor made Lyon isn't threatening - that leaves the kid and the classy (injury prone veteran) - if long spells are needed I'd be demanding that Watson and Starc carry the load tbh

Im a Siddle fan and wouldn't mind him being in the XI

However left armer for left armer seems the main reason, we have 3 right armers who basically bowl the same, having a 4th would be overkill. I can see the logic (unlike picking Maxwell to bat at 3 in tests, let alone picking Maxwell to play tests)

Plus its Starc's homeground.

Having said that, along with Watson, might be time for Starc to deliver

Found it hard to give away a seat in the members today for day 1, even have reserved seats on level 2! Literally everyone is back at work. Might not be the crowds we usually get. Either that or my friends hate me.

I don't see a need for a left armer, and also don't want this stupid Warne ego shit about Starc in the media again.

Smith has to give him a big load I reckon, he needs to find his confidence, the series is won - if he can't you cannot keep picking the kid for one test here and there.

Watson, lost cause to be honest - while when he bowls he is tidy he bowls so few overs and such short spells it's not terribly useful 3-4 over spells should be for the likes of Johnson, not a fragile military medium man, barely getting through his action - his role, I'd have thought, is when the Indian batsmen are on top he can lock up an end for 6-8 overs, and if needed bowl 15+ overs in a day - the only time he had a reasonable bowling load was I Brisbane, while the others were busting their balls in flat tracks at Adelaide and Melbourne he was hiding at 1st slip...

Summed Watson the great team man to a tee JJ, hopefully Starc gets a decent bowl and does well just to shut the plastic man up.

Starc does bowls the odd Jaffa, they're way too far and few between though.

Consistency in line and length is what he is lacking. I'd rather him there than Siddle. For all his heart he simply does not have any potency.

More hater rubbish. In my defence, I did manage to let it go for the first 3 posts.

Watson was the 5th pace option in Adelaide. You must have missed the fact that Mitch Marsh played. The fact he wasn't in the all rounder role might be a reasonably important consideration when evaluating Watsons all rounder bowling load.

In Mebourne he bowled 16 out of 128. Essentially saving the 3 pacemen 1 x 4 over spell each per day or holding up one end for about 30min a session. 10-12 a day doing that is very useful and is what is required from that role. If it's not, you have issues with your main attack and you need to look at them. If an important 6-8 tight over spell is needed, then that responsibility should fall with a main bowler. Why shouldn't it ? You do have 4 of them, all selected specifically to bowl, and a cricket pitch only has two ends. If none of them are up to that task and you are searching for the all rounder, it's not the all rounder you need to be looking at.

I find Starc doesn't hit the pitch hard enough during some spells. If he ever clicks he will be an awesome bowler because he can bowl some gems, can swing it a fair distance too.

Pick your best 3 quicks, which is what we have done.

We never had an issue playing McGrath, Lee, Dizzy Kasper ect in the same team, much like Donald, Ntini and Steyne, Morkell etc.

Watson probabaly only still in the team because Marsh is injured. I cant for the life of me see how he could be picked on form.

Problem is we really don't have even 3 good ones. Shit we barely have two at the moment.

Harris is the most consistent, Johnson is world's best when in form, and mediocre at best when not. Then it drops off rapidly.
