We've always had it in for the Dragons as Cronulla fans ,we should be applauding the fact.
It's good to explore export markets, but leaving all your eggs in one basket is fraught with danger. You should check on the growing number of countries China is having issues with.Bullying it's way around the Sth China Seas: Taiwan, Japan,Phillipines, Vietnam, Brunei and now intruding in Malaysian waters by wanting all rights over minerals ,reefs and offshore islands.
Every Chinese person I'v met have been decent intelligent human beings, generous too. It's their Government that is the problem.

Twiggies of this world think of their hip pocket and showing the public how generous they are.

Over 4million people have been infected ,hundreds of thousands have died, the world needs to know how it started ,so there is no repeat. If it's from a wet market ban them, a lab tighter measures needed.
That's the difference in a democracy there are investigations for stuff ups, in a totalitarian Communist society the Party must prevail and cover ups the order of the day.)

I could warm to you taips.. if only you could apply alittle more cognitive thinking about your blind spot.... global warming

That's democracy for ya. Differing views. I've stated transition to renewables to be done gradually not to shut down mining straight away.Especially with all the people that will be out of work post COVID-19.

Places like China and the USA the world's biggest polluters, deforestation, air travel pollution ,cruise liner pollution are hardly this country's fault.Yet we're expected to drop everything in a country of our physical size with a small population and expect us to lead the way overnight.

We'll play our part. But for now we have an issue which is life threatening now, and killing us like flies.Should we worry instead about electric cars?

How the hell did GretaT get on a CNN panel for COVID-19?The world has gone crazy.

Anyway this thread is about our home grown world leader who has now 120 countries on board ,for an investigation in China about the virus origins.

Trouble is its getting close to midnight ... Tipping point . We are a huge supplier of greenhouse gas fuels even if not a major user . Bushfires, extremes in storms in intensity and nos .We dont have the luxury of going at our own speed . We were procrastinating about it when we should have been making hard decisions .We were listening to Vested interests and religeous nutters and not the experts . Its not Scomos fault its All our fault but that doesnt make it all ok .

As far as Greta on Cnn panel.... Probably attempt by Cnn to humiliate her . Who cares really If you listen to the experts you wouldnt care. For mine shes just a reminder that there are people coming after us who will suffer consequences or benifit from what we do ... Nothing more nothing less ... Dont know why people insist on attacking her.Suspect its just cause they are too dumb to understand what the experts are telling them so they distract by attacking a little girl. Anyway Peter's probably right ,they couldnt get Miley and Peter Pan was busy with his own Plan for his next adventure.

We are one of the highest emitters per capita.

we are a developed country.

It would be easier to do nothing though. So that’s what we should do.

The "close to midnight "view ,has been expressed for many years from the Gores to the Flannerys .I just wish people would stop making predictions on times that pass and just get on with it.

The people that have been loudest appear to have views of their own,(some extreme in my view )not influenced by vested interest or religious nutters ,despite some of them being out there.Of course mining industry would be agin instant chopping of their industry.Job losses with associated industries would be tremendous.Any business owner, having the prospect of losing his business in a short time frame, would have a vested interest.

Anyway the way China is behaving ,they may well stop buying our coal, and make up for it buying it elsewhere. And the world is no less polluted..
If China and India had no need for coal, would we even be debating the subject?

We don't have the luxury of doing much at this stage, the economy is well and truly rogered. We are going to be hit individually for many years to pay for the huge deficit.

I will offer this point, in today's Australian(yes it's a Murdoch one)noted "The remit of the $2bn Climate Solutions Fund has been expanded to have emission reduction technologies across the economy including in the high carbon sectors of resources, manufacturing, transport and agriculture."That suggests we haven't thrown the towel in on Climate issues.
Also more than 2million homes in this country now have solar panels, so things are moving.
Make electric cars a lot cheaper would certainly help.

I care about people losing jobs all of a sudden in large numbers,I care about the environment, so there has to be a balanced ,careful ,approach in minimising the effect.
I suggest the Greens would be least affected by large numbers of job losses, their strength in the major cities.

CNN have been one of the most prominent pro Global Warming outlets in the USA.If they are trying to humiliate her, they are undercutting their well publicised policies on the subject matter.

Regardless of age ,whether they be male or female, once you put yourself out there in the public domain, and make statements and create a huge following of supporters, you have created a public persona.
The whole idea of democracy is to have differing points of view. And when you get differing points of view ,you as a public figure can at times be the subject of verbal attacks. If it was a 17 year old little guy, the same position would hold true.
The little girl was able to go to the UN and lay down her views to chief officials of countries.I applaud her courage of her convictions. If a 17 year old girl provided an opposing view on Climate Change, you think she wouldn't be open to ridicule or criticism?

And China is not a developing 3rd world country,It;'sa highly developed country, with sophisticated machinery, weaponry and a huge road system. They stopped coal imports tomorrow from all countries, we'd be laughing.
We are indeed high emitters, but the size of the country, is one of the reasons.Transporting goods here by road runs into at times ,hundred of kms.In Europe you could fit half a dozen countries into Oz.We also use flying as a means of interstate transport. We use cars more than many Europeans.
I would think nothing of driving to the Gold Coast for a holiday 900kms est and back. Now I fly.Fossil fuel used in both instances. In Europe that would get me into many countries.
Australians are travellers both here and overseas, you'll never change those habits.

they don’t take those things into consideration
They will only use terms like per capita to suit their arguments.
We are actually sweet f**k all of the problem compared to the rest of the planet.

and again
Greta on a COVID panel
Bwhahaha

she is not a poo stain in a pair of scientists undies.

Scomo’s church is as convincing as her knowledge on a pandemic.

FMD.
That is so embarrassing for the Greta Fanboys.
Get her a cameo on neighbours.

Well there you go. We could develop alternative transport. Good thinking!

No. Greta is much better than a real scientist.

Who are you actually trying to argue with here?

I have no problem with developing alternative transport, provided it is practical, economical and environmentally friendly. If it was that easy we would have worked on it ages ago.
You prepared to pay let's say a 25% tax hike to support R&D for the Sunlight Express?

Many years ago went to Japan for two weeks for work.Went on a bullet train from Tokyo to Osaka. if we had those sort of trains running between Brisvegass, Sydney ,Canbraaa and Melbourne plus Melbourne/Adelaide/Perth we'd be laughing. But a country of 25m whose gonna pay for it? Ghostbusters?
And I'd buy the first ticket.Visitors from overseas cannot get over the physical size and distances involved in getting around here.

Please, we are a country as big in area as the USA, as big as Europe, nearly as large as China, and 25m of us stretched mainly over the near coastal areas of the country, are expected to down tools and that will contribute to the world's Global Warming issue.I wish it were that easy.If we had the population the size of Iran about 70m, we'd be in a position to do a hell of a lot more.
We have a huge f...ing desert/dry interior ,that decided to intrude up our physical guts, that sure as hell doesn't help transportation, nor decentralisation.Unless of course your'e one of those near 1million feral camels ,chewing and crapping their way around the inland.

Gotta use per capita because the real amount we emit is not even worth reporting. Could shut us down today and the earth wouldn’t even see a .5% difference.

The close to midnight "view" and tipping point theory have been expressed by many climatology experts..

The loud people would be encouraged by those with vested interests , naive to think otherwise Oh the mining sector and Businesses in trouble would have vested interests? Go figure!

The 2 billion Climate Solutions fund ? Thatll go far! Whats that? about 70 dollars PER CAPITA ?Suppose they could restart Holden and start making Electric cars for that ? Pardon my skepticism. BTW Corolla Hybrids (charge under braking too) Priced same as Petrol. substantial savings on fuel.

Theres lots of jobs in renewable energy For instance all the Chinese employed making solar panels .Just we havent been worried about transitioning to them . To easy to pull the resources out of the ground ship em to China and buy them back so Chinese can then use the money to buy up Australia. Good O!

Dont have the luxury of doing Much ? Ha! We have to have a drastic rethink about our affluent lifestyle and how its paid for and price we pay for it . No more jumping in a jet aircraft at drop of a hat , No more driving big SUVs around the city where not needed And some of our luxury spare time needs to be commited to retraining and transitioning Jobs and lifestyle rather than Carbon emitting holidays

A 17 yr old with opposing view on climate Change ? I would regard and treat her same way as greta (who Ive never actually heard speak )(. Simply a reminder that theres a younger generation thatll feel effects of our choices . If I did say anything to or about her it would only be to point her in direction of the experts.

LOL Who do you think doesnt take those things into consideration ? You poo poo heads only take those things into consideration when it suits your argument . Or more accurately the dribble you think is a cognisant argument.
