people having a go at Rothfield are a bit one-eyed surely...

he did his job brilliantly in this episode
DI did his job woefully in this episode

he knows full well who Rothfield is, and the potential power a "conversation" can do

was a silly move

He mentioned he was badgered about it and I could see how the comment could be made in heated conversation with an idiot who can't comprehend what you are saying. Doesn't excuse it and probably shouldn't of picked up the phone.

Irivine and HYPO both spoke well in that press conference and handled a pressure situation well.

Hypo was one of the directors who met with the players at Rydges last week (supposedly) and maybe being an ex player, his appointment was made to improve relations with the playing group.

Irvine said he felt his "presence at the club may prove to be an obstacle" to the investigation into drugs at the Sharks.

"As a result I'm standing down as the chairman of the board of directors today. The club needs time to investigate and plan the way forward without added distraction.
"We have a bright future financially at the Cronulla Sharks. Our membership is booming compared to previous years and we're not going anywhere.
"There's no stronger or tougher club to get through it.
"The NRL have been very supportive. They're in a difficult position as well. The players are under the ASADA code, we are under the NRL code, it's very complicated."
Coleman said: "We need to focus 100 per cent on the interests of our player who are in this ASADA investigation.
"We've got a review in place at the moment which we want to get through as quickly as possible."
Former Brisbane Broncos chief executive Bruno Cullen will start at the Sharks today.
"Bruno is a friend of mine," Irvine said. "I've known him for a while. He will come in and help at a time when a board had to make a very difficult decision at a hard time."
Cronulla kicked off their season with a 12-10 win over the Gold Coast Titans at Sharks Stadium on Sunday night. Players and fans were open in their support for Flanagan, Mooney, Noakes, Givney and Schultz.

Oh yeah - one more thing. Danny Weidler was embarrassing - some of his questions werent even questions. Irvine looked at him like the goose that he is!!!

Never met or knew DI but he clearly was Sharks through and through. DI Thanks for your work and don't be lost to the Sharks.

Weidler asks stupid questions that he knows can't be answered and then draws his own conclusions from the "non answers". Thats how he works.

For instance, I think he asked the question "Do you think the players are innocent?" He got a totally appropriate "No Comment". I'm sure he'll get some mileage out of that.

However, would Irvine have said it to any other reporter? Plenty of reporters were trying to call him none were spoken to.
But rothfield got under his guard & that was great work by Rothfield.
But if Rotfield was a Stains supporter, his call would not have even een answered. ike Weidlers wasn't.
So Rothfield has proven 2 things.
he will put his job way in front of ethics & morals & will lie to protect himself. He will aso knife the club, its players, management & board given any opportunity to further advance his own ego or standing in the media.

First directive from Hypo to all staff and players should be - no interviews, discussions with Rothfield!!!

Problem is, that if you don't talk to them they make shit up. It's a double edged sword.

Someone needs to give Weirdler and Rothfield gunpowder enemas, stick a wick up their arses and then run a raffle to see who gets to light them

Rothfield always has and always will put his job in front of the interests of the Sharks. His agenda is transparent. Irvine took responsibility for the comments and handled himself with dignity.

Irvine has done an amazing job keeping the club going. That should always be remembered.

He maintained extraordinary discipline in not revealing the details why the staff have been sacked. It would be incredibly difficult not to justify the decision given the pressure he is under.
