Im sick and tired of those Denis haters.
IMO if you dont like him you have either not met him or have no concept of his role at the club.

Im glad that hes our CEO and he has made Parra the great club that it is now. Forget premierships, look at the high esteem that the club is held in by businesses, league officials, fans and players.
We aren't called the giants of the West for nothing.

Yes hes a straight shooter, yes he can be a pain in the ass but I want a bloke in that role who doesnt take BS and stands by his word.

It is my hope that at the end of his wonderful administration career, we recognise the wonderful contribution this man has made to the club.

He is not responsible for a missed tackle on the field nor a dropped ball. He bleeds Blue and gold.

I recall Jack Gibson saying that Denis may not be the nicest bloke to bring home to meet your parents but he (Gibson) is in his corner.

Thats good enough for me - Im in his corner too.

I haven't been to the club for ages and was quite pleasantly surprised last Friday night (first home game) with the way the licensed club is looking and how professionally it's run.

From all accounts the Football Club is run the same way. Everyone who has been inside the inner sanctum will tell you that the back office, coaching & medical staff are second to none.

A good CEO of any multi-million dollar business surrounds himself with professional staff and advisors and he had done exactly that.

Hindy is no fool and country boys usually have a dickhead policy when it comes to people they are comfortable in dealing with. The fact that Hindy has happily chosen to finish his career with the club must in some way indicate that the CEO isn't a no-hoper.

When he comments on all things NRL, DF's agenda is the game rather than whats good for his team.

Looks to me that DF knows his stuff and I'll support him 100% until a better candidate is nominated.

EDIT: 1,000 posts - go me. :)

we need a change mate...we really do, he's been at the helm for about 2 years too long, our club needs a positive head and media savvy leader at the helm, we people think of fitzy, they cringe...when Dean Ritchie grabs a quote from him whatever it's all about we all cringe...

the old longest serving CEO line and "he's only been for 5 minutes" has been done to death..

Dennis signs cheques, while Tony Zappia, Michael Hagan and apparently Greg Mitchell keeps the motor running...but apart from Hagan we never any hear of those guys.

you've just got listen to how Steve noyce, Shane Richardson and Bruno Cullen promote their club, they do it without ego and it's all about passion.

Eela, I respect your opinion, and you know I do.
But I can't see what Denis has done to be replaced? Strong men make weak men, and Denis is a strong man. He doesn't tolerate fools.. He'll do me for a CEO.
John Peard told me that Denis has always been a man of principle. When he played with him in the mid seventies, he said Fitzy was the players rep and he always stood his ground in disputes. That's what I like about him.
He calls a spade a spade. and that's what I want in a figure head. He would not have lasted this long if he couldn't stand the heat.

I appreciate what he's done to the club, I don't dislike him and I still believe he's been one of the best Amninistrators this game has had, but I honestly believe we need a change in his position with someone who's more media friendly, this game is run on agendas if you don't pea in the pocket of the media we risk bad publicity which in turn leads to lack of support and sponsorship dollers.

In recent times he's given it to Phil Gould, Brian Waldron and Willie Mason which has only fed the media with more negative ammo...one thing I noticed last year is the media exposure we recieved when I players played up off the field as opposed to a club like Manly who have probably had the same amount of incidents off the field and yet we heard nothing of it.

Hey Eela has he said anything to Bulldog Recently?

I'm sure Bulldog has a bit to write about at the moment without giving his mate a call.

Do you want him to be scared of what someone MIGHT say about him or the Club because he has an opinion?..Does that mean he has to kiss arse? The tail wagging the dog. I respect the bloke for his forth right ness. (that is a new word, btw)
No good thinking one thing and saying another.
What he said to those blokes..Was it wrong..or is what everyone was thinking but too scared to say it....
There wouldn't be any strong men if it wasn't for the weak.
If the peanut players couldn't behave themselves like normal people off the paddock ...they deserve to be flayed..they should know better and I hope he continues to do it..
PS The Eels don't do too badly with sponsorship dollars...

Why is it that our former greats do not like Denis Fitzgerald?

Peter Sterling, Ray Price & Brett Kenny have all been stated in the past saying Fitzy does not want them around the joint. Is he insecure perhaps?

It just doesn't sit well with me. Personally speaking, no administrator is iraplaceable and if DF only signs cheques and doesn't have any bearing on football results, as mentioned by others, than what good is he doing for our club considering the bad publicity he brings to our club?

 ...

both Price and Sterling had the opportunity to contribute to the club outside their playing days and couldn't commit to the cause, Kenny's just dirty that he didn't get a job when he asked for one.

it's been said million times mate...

I agree with Sooper,

Feleti could have been long gone by now if he chose to. Apparently he was impressed with the chat he had with hagan last year and decided to stay. Being played in 1st grade now, I can only see him leaving if someone came in with a ridiculous bid of 200k a year.
Don't be surprised if manly do this either, they still have $5 million under the cap to spend;-)

200 k is not ridiculous at all - he is a potential gamebreaker, thought he played awesome when you guys played the tigers.
Apparently sharks are trying to sign young kiwi international Bronson Harrison who played with Feleti for various NSW junior rep teams and played against him for Junior Kiwis.
Sharks wld have a killer backrow with these guys.

As Eela Said it has been said before

But, Ray Price is dirty because he wanted fitzys job after he retired but fitzy wouldn't budge and sealed the method that got Fitzy "Elected" to the Job.

Now Brett Kenny is dirty on the club because Brian Smith didn't want him as a coach and Denis wouldn't step in for him.

Sterling had a Recent Blow up with Fitzy (I think 6 or 7 years ago) when he sided with his on again off again mate Ray over the Footy Show thing, where the Melbourne Players wore masks of a Banned player. Sterlo and the footy show thought it was funny. Hadley and co didn't and quit the footy on Principal. This was the time the Footyshow became about fun and not football.

Any one who thinks Sterling would leave the comfort of Channel 9 were he gets paid to Stand still and talk is Dreaming. I honestly think Parramatta leagues couldn't afford him, and may I ask does anyone think that having the TAB bar at Parramatta Leagues named as Sterlo sports is just the funniest thing going?

But Sterlo isn't a Stranger to this club and he gets on quite well with the Rest of the Administration at this club.

Also last I saw Sterlo he can't walk that well so how would he go with "Training" with a side, I don't know.

There are so many Legends of our club that are still involved. I think worrying about a few that have a personal axe to grind is folly. Bob O'Reilly, Steve Edge, for a time there Jason Taylor, Peter Wynn just off the top of my head have a regular involvement with the club

These are interesting points. Was Denis quoted as making these statements anywhere or are they just theories?

Personally i dont like or hate the bloke, I just think we need a change, especially after more than 25 yrs. Besides, i don't think raising these points should upset anyone? should they? Finding out why our former greats don't respect DF is what i would like to know.

They were in the Paper a long time ago.

Ray was upset he couldn't get elected to Secretary of the club by doing what Denis did and that was to get all of his mates to join up, all go to the meeting and Vote him in. He then closed the loop hole a few years later so it is as we all know now, that you must be a financial member for 3 years before you have voting rights.

I think that is documented on the History of the Eels DVD. I think Denis explains the situation on that DVD.

As for Kenny he has said he was upset and disappointed that Denis didn't try to retain him as a coach when Brian thought he wasn't good enough, I think that came from the Panthers Media somewhere when he Joined the club as Flegg Coach.

Sounds like DF is a dictator. Making up new rules to monopolise the board. I would be upset aswell if I had a whole stack of people that wanted to vote for me but couldn't.
I'll vote DF in the next election just to make you happy ;-) .........not!

Why would the politics surrounding Denis' job even make it onto that video?? FFS!!

Smacks of political propaganda to me.
Wouldn't people who buy it be more interested about seeing highlights from our greatest games?

DF is not elected to the Board. He was elected 25 years ago but he is an Employee of the club now. The Board is who you elect and if you don't know that then really you don't know how our club works.

In reality Denis just put into place a protection for our club so as it could not be Hijacked by anyone, Ray saw it as a personal assault. Our club was one of the First to bring this rule in and I think you will find it is now in force over most of the football clubs in the country.

Example, you get a group of people who want to sack a player but the club board doesn't want to then they go and find all the like minded people, they join up and vote for you and then you get your way and these other people drop off after a year of membership. Yet they get to ride rough shot over those that have been paying their dues for a long amount of time. If you think that is right then that is your opinion, I personally think that is the worst result our club could ever face.
