Wayne Bennett dug his on grave with the totally disastrous GB tour of NZ and PNG.Stupid to change the coach with so few games before the World Cup. At least the flat cappers will be happy, well they probably won’t be.

That’s usually how it works. You don’t reward mediocrity. So if we have a bad ashes tour do we go change again?

If they appoint Wane, then they really need to see how many more matches they can squeeze in between now and the World Cup.
So far England only has 3 matches fully confirmed (v Australia) and one maybe against Samoa mid-year.
That said, considering RL only needs about a month's notice in order to schedule a Test Match, there is plenty of time to add some more fixtures to help England build combinations / depth / etc.
There is plenty of time and room for England to add another Test at the end of the year before the Ashes Series (France being the most obvious opponent), plus a mid-year Test next year and one before the RLWC kicks off.
7 Tests would give Wane far more to work with than just 4, even if some of these are against 'weaker' opponents, he needs to have some time to get to know the players and try and influence them to play the way he wants them to play.
Hopefully they forget about the Samoa game altogether under Wane and try and get Ireland who can probably put the strongest team on the park of their neighbours.
England could play games around the Ashes on October 24 (France are free that weekend) and November 21 (Wales).
England Knights could also play any of the Euro Cup teams on their week off.
It will be interesting to see if Wane changes tack.
I honestly wouldn’t compare Alex Ferguson’s early man United reign with that of Wayne Bennett’s England/GB time.Man United stuck with Fergie through some rough times early on. bet they’re glad they rewarded mediocrity.
This. Plus there wasn’t anything to point to in terms of giving us hope or optimism for things changing for the better.Bennett lost 5 in a row and clearly doesn't watch Super League, respect English players or value English Rugby League. The job at South Sydney has high expectations, when is he meant to coach a team on the opposite side of the world?
Losing wasn't the biggest issue, it's how he went about it. Publicly treating a GB tour as an England training camp. Picking Australians out of position to avoid having to look too deep into English or Welsh players.
He had a good run into 2017 but 2019 was obviously coasting.
Welsby is obviously a rare special talent who I’d invite to training camps even if he wasn’t going to figure in the matchday squads.England need to pick a team this year with an eye on the WC, that means picking Trueman and possibly even Welsby.
